William “Bill” R. Ayers, 64, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on August 27, 2026, at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Bill was born in Evansville on December 15, 1961, to Cecil and Carolyn Ayers. He was married to Toni (Carroll) Ayers.
Bill graduated from Mt. Vernon High School. He worked for GE and WSI during his career. Bill attended Harvestime Temple.
Bill enjoyed fishing and watching basketball, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He especially cherished the time he spent with his son, William, and the memories they made together.
He is survived by his wife, Toni Ayers; parents, Cecil and Carolyn Ayers; son, William O. Ayers; sisters, Melanie (Blake) Bammer and Cathy Jennings; brothers and sisters-in-law, Brenda, Debbie, Paul, and Wendell (Carroll); nieces and nephews, Tyler Jennings, Nathan Jennings, Mallory Quintanilla, Derek Bammer, Justin Carroll, Ann Upshaw, and Rachel Seals; and aunts and uncles, Benny Ayers, Linda Hunsinger, Alma Dunn, and Connie Shaw.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2026, with Pastor Mark Tabor officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery on Blackford Road.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics Indiana- Posey County, PO Box 417, Mt. Vernon, IN 47620, Attn: Maddie Rapp.
