Wildcats second, Vikings third in finale

Finally, the Mount Vernon and North Posey boys’ golf teams were able to get a match last Thursday afternoon. The host site was Western Hills Golf Club located in Mount Vernon and the home venue of the Wildcats. Not only did Mount Vernon and North Posey compete, but Evansville North joined the other two schools to make this a triangular meet.

All three of these schools will meet again in a few weeks on June 4, for the Indiana High School Athletic Association golf sectional that will be played at Helfrich Golf Course. The sectional these three schools will compete in is one of the toughest in the state.

Back to last Thursday, which was a good match to fix some issues or adjustments before the upcoming postseason. Over the last ten or so years, the Evansville North Huskies have been one of the toughest teams in the area, if not the state.

Mount Vernon and North Posey stayed up with North in the teams scores with the Wildcats (166) only three shots behind the Huskies (163). The Vikings (177) were fourteen shots behind North in the final team scores.

Individually, Hank Schreiber of Evansville North was the medalist of this match, scoring a low of 37 shots on the nine-hole, par 35 course. Brennan Austin of Mount Vernon placed second overall with 39 shots and four above par. Ethan Bittner of North Posey placed fourth overall with 41 shots and six above par.

Also placing in the top ten from Mount Vernon were Jake Carlile and Chase Byerly tying for fifth place with 42 shots. Preston Russell and Nathan Craig of the Wildcats tied for ninth place with each scoring a 43. For North Posey, Camden Koester tied for fifth place with 42 shots and Josh Freeman tied for ninth place with 43 shots.
