Lady Vikings end regular season with win over Washington

The last game of the regular season was played last Thursday night for the North Posey softball team. In their final game of the regular season, the Lady Vikings played at home against the Washington Lady Hatchets.
North Posey shutout Washington in this matchup by the final score of 7-0. One of the keys to this win was the pitching performance from Viking sophomore Alli Esche. In this contest, Esche threw a complete game of seven innings, allowing six hits, no runs, one walk, with eight strikeouts on 83 pitches thrown.
For the season, North Posey improved their record to fourteen wins and fourteen losses. In the Pocket Athletic Conference, the Lady Vikings were 8-4 in league play, finishing sixth. Washington’s season record fell to two wins and twenty-one losses. The Lady Hatchets were 1-9 in the PAC for twelfth place.
In the bottom of the second inning, Alli Esche got things going for the Lady Vikings by getting hit by a pitch. Emmylou Pate came in as a courtesy runner for Esche. Lily Hester hit a single, scoring Pate to give North Posey a 1-0 lead. Ayela Hoehn was next to bat and while at the plate, Hester stole for second base, then made it to third base and to the home plate by wild pitches to give the Lady Vikings a 2-0 advantage.
During the bottom of the fourth inning, Esche walked, Pate stepped in as a courtesy runner. Callie Deakins singled on a ground ball, moving Pate to third base. Lily Hester then hit a double scoring Pate and Deakins to make the score 4-0. While Paige Vaughn was batting, Hester stole third and home to make the score 5-0 in favor of the Lady Vikings.
At the bottom of the fifth inning, Callie Deakins hit a double on a fly ball to right field scoring Makenna Hoehn and Savannah Lindenberg to give North Posey a 7-0 lead that later went on to be the final score.
As a team, North Posey had eight hits in the game on the seven runs scored. Washington had six hits in this contest with no runs scored. Getting hits for North Posey were Lily Hester (2-for-2), Callie Deakins (2-for-3), Ayela Hoehn (1-for-3), Paige Vaughn (1-for-3), Madison Versteeg (1-for-3), and Makenna Hoehn (1-for-2).
Having hits in the game for Washington were Baleigh Worland (2-for-3), Mia Humphries (2-for-3), Ella Strange (1-for-3), and Karsyn Humbaugh (1-for-3). Humphries also pitched a complete game for the Lady Hatchets, giving up eight hits, seven runs, six walks, with eleven strikeouts on 125 pitches thrown.
