By Chris Morlan

The postseason began onTuesday night for the Mount Vernon and North Posey girls’ track and field teams. The Indiana High School Athletic Association sectionals were hosted by Mount Vernon High School.

To qualify for the regional round of the track and field state tournament. You must place in one of the top three spots of a race or field event. You had to place in top eight of a race or field event to score points for your team.

Mount Vernon had several tracksters qualifying for the regional competition that will be held on Tuesday, May 26, at Evansville Central High School. Nine Lady Wildcats qualified for the regionals. The qualifiers were Attalia Wolf, Stella Hall, Jaylan York, Maggie Aldrich, Maryiah Buchanan, Maddie Abel, Madison Cooper, Victoria Poling, and Jaycee Campbell.

The Lady Wildcats won three sectional contests. Attalia Wolf won the discus throw, Stella Hall in the 300-meter hurdles, and Jaylan York in the long jump. Also qualifying for regional were Maggie Aldrich placing third in the 200-meter dash, Stella Hall was second in the 100-meter hurdles, the 4 x 100-meter relay team of Jaylan York, Stella Hall, Mariyah Buchanan, and Maggie Aldrich finished third. The 4 x 800-meter relay team of Maddie Abel, Madison Cooper, Victoria Poling, and Jaycee Campbell placed third in the race.

Others Lady Wildcats earning team points tonight but did not qualify for regional were Jaylan York sixth in the 200-meter dash, Makayla Schneider seventh in the 400-meter dash, Jaycee Campbell sixth in the 800-meter run, Madison Cooper fifth in the 1600-meter run, Ambryn Siddons fifth in the pole vault, Maggie Aldrich fifth in the 100-meter dash, and the 4 x 400-meter relay team of Aldrich, York, Schneider, and Hall finished in fourth place.

For North Posey, the Lady Vikings had six qualifying for the regional round. Qualifying for the regional round were Rowen Englebright winning the 3200-meter run and Paxtyn placing second in the discus throw.

Also making the cut for North Posey based on the Three Participant Standard advancers in an event is less than 16, the next best performances from the corresponding sectionals shall be added to bring the total number of entrants to 16 in each event. Due to this situation, Avery Little (High Jump), and the Lady Viking 4 x 100-meter relay team of Jaylan Johnson, Avery Little, Brooklyn Reich, and Elle Jo Johnson punched their tickets to the regional.

Scoring points for North Posey but did not qualify for the regional were Elle Jo Johnson placing fifth in the long jump and seventh in the 100-meter dash. Paxtyn Gibbs placed seventh in the shot put and Jaylan Johnson finished eighth in the long jump.
