Wildcats rebound quickly from first loss, defeat Mater Dei

Alaina Allyn struck out 15 batters as the right-handed pitcher led the Mt. Vernon Wildcats past Evansville Mater Dei Wildcats 8-2 on Friday. Allyn allowed five hits and two runs over seven innings while walking one.

Mt. Vernon opened the scoring in the first when Aubrey Grimes homered to center field, scoring two runs.

The Wildcats added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Lindsey Allyn singled down the left field line, and Stella Hall flew out, each scoring one run.

Mallory Rhodes homered to left field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third for the Wildcats.

Addi Boots took the loss for Evansville Mater Dei Varsity Wildcats. The pitcher went six innings, surrendering eight runs on 12 hits, striking out three and walking one.

Mt. Vernon piled up 12 hits in the game. Allyn, Lacey Allyn, and Allyn, alomg with Rhodes collected two hits each for Mt. Vernon. Allyn, Grimes, and Rhodes each drove in two runs for the Wildcats. The Wildcats were sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit an error.

Ingrid Damm and Addison Collins were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Evansville Mater Dei Varsity Wildcats. Collins led Evansville Mater Dei Wildcats with two hits in three at bats.
