Lady Vikings take down undefeated Wildcats 10-5, lose two

The North Posey softball team had a tough slate of games last week. On Monday afternoon, the Lady Vikings took on county rival and then undefeated Mount Vernon Wildcats in a home matchup. North Posey played a great game defeating the Wildcats 10-5, snapping a two-game losing streak.
On Tuesday, the Lady Vikings went to Vincennes to take on the South Knox Spartans. This game was a heartbreaker losing to the Spartans 13-11. On Wednesday afternoon, North Posey was back at home against the top ranked Tecumseh Braves. North Posey was held to three hits in the game and lost 15-0 in five innings. For the season, North Posey’s season record fell to six wins and seven losses.
North Posey 10, Mount Vernon 5: On Monday evening, the North Posey Lady Vikings took on the undefeated Mount Vernon Lady Wildcats in a Posey County rivalry matchup. It was an exciting game if you were a fan of either one of these teams. A good size crowd attended this event to root on their teams.
In the top of the first inning, Wildcat freshmen Stella Hall hit a solo home run over the right field fence to give Mount Vernon a 1-0 lead. North Posey wasted no time gaining the lead in this contest. The Lady Vikings scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to then lead 2-1.
At the bottom of the second inning, North Posey scored three more runs to extend their lead to 5-1. Mount Vernon made a comeback, scoring two runs in the top of the third inning to make the score 5-3, still in favor of the Vikings. North Posey answered back, scoring two runs at the bottom of the fourth, one run in the bottom of the fifth, and two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 10-3.
In the top of the seventh inning, Mount Vernon scored two runs but came up short losing to North Posey 10-5. This was Mount Vernon’s first loss of the season dropping their season record to six wins and one loss. North Posey snapped a two-game losing streak by improving their record to six wins and five losses.
For the game, North Posey had 13 hits. Mount Vernon had 11 hits in this contest. Avery Sanders was awarded the winning pitcher for North Posey. Sanders threw seven innings, allowing eleven hits, five runs, one walk, with one strikeout on 103 pitches. Alaina Allyn took the loss pitching for Mount Vernon, throwing six innings, surrendering 13 hits, 10 runs, no walks with seven strikeouts on 118 pitches.
Madison Versteeg was a perfect 4-for-4 for the Lady Vikings with two doubles and three RBIs. Paige Vaughn went three for four with a triple, two RBIs, and four runs scored. Ayela Hoehn went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs, and a stolen base.
Taryn Wilson hit a triple, one RBI, two runs and hit by a pitch. Lily Hester went two for four with two runs. Avery Sanders went one for three with a double, one RBI, and a stolen base. Savannah Lindenberg scored a run and stole a base.
Aubrey Grimes led Mount Vernon going 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Stella Hall went two for four with a home run, one RBI, two runs and a stolen base. Lacey Allyn went 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI, two runs and a stolen base. Mallory Rhodes went 2-for-4. Alaina Allyn went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Janie Bohleber had one hit in this contest. Ali Lyke was hit by a pitch.
South Knox 13, North Posey 11: The Lady Vikings went on the road last Tuesday night to play against the South Knox Lady Spartans. North Posey came into this game on a high note after defeating Mount Vernon the day before looking to get their second win in a row.
North Posey tied this game 2-2 in the top of the third inning. Then South Knox rallied by scoring nine runs in the bottom of the third inning to set the tone of this game. However, North Posey scored runs in each of the next four innings but came up short in the top of the seventh inning by two runs for the loss.
As a team, North Posey had 18 hits in the game. Madison Versteeg and Makenna Hoehn each hit a home run in this game, for their first of the season. Hoehn went two for two hitting with a double, home run, two runs, and a run batted in. Versteeg went two for five with the home run, three RBIs, and a run.
Ayela Hoehn went three for five with two RBIs and a run. Paige Vaughn went two for four with a double, three RBIs, two runs and hit by a pitch. Alli Esche went two for two with a run batted in. Alyssa Sanders had two hits on three at bats.
Lily Hester went one for three with two runs, two walks, and three stolen bases. Taryn Wilson went one for four with two runs, a walk, and a stolen base. Avery Sanders went one for five hitting. Savannah Lindenberg went one for three with a double, one RBI, one run scored, and a walk. Callie Deakins also had a hit in the game.
South Knox had four players with multiple hits in the game. The Lady Spartans had five extra base hits (four doubles and one home run). Allie Esche took the loss in the pitcher’s circle for North Posey. Esche threw 4.1 innings, allowing four hits, six runs, three walks with four strikeouts. Avery Sanders threw 1.2 innings giving up six hits, seven runs, two walks, with two strikeouts.
Tecumseh 15, North Posey 0 (Five Innings): The Lady Vikings played against another tough opponent last Wednesday afternoon at home. That was Class 2A, ranked number one Tecumseh Braves. Over the past four seasons, Tecumseh has been to the state finals four straight times, winning three of those contests.
This year’s Tecumseh team is loaded again with talent and expected to make another deep run in the Class 2A tournament. In the game last Wednesday night, Tecumseh held North Posey scoreless and only allowed the Lady Vikings three hits for the entire game. The Braves scored three runs in the first, two in the second, eight in the fourth, and two more runs in the fifth to take down North Posey 15-0 in a game that only lasted five innings.
Of the three hits by North Posey, Paige Vaughn went two for two at the plate. Ayela Hoehn got the other hit for North Posey and went one for two at bat. All-state sophomore pitcher Audrey Seiler of Tecumseh took down North Posey, throwing five innings, allowing three hits, no runs, no walks with eleven strikeouts on 65 pitches.
Tecumseh had 16 hits in the game as a team. The Lady Braves were led by Breann Harris going four for four with two doubles, four RBIs and a run. Bianca Lochmueller went two for three with a triple, one RBI, and two runs scored. Melanie Pfeiffer was two for four hitting with a double, one RBI, and two runs. Adley Staples went two for three with two runs, two RBIs, one walk, and a stolen base.
