Lack of experience has Lady Viking tennis off to slow start

The North Posey girls’ tennis team played three opponents this week. On Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Vikings were at home against Southridge losing 3-2. North Posey played against Pike Central on Wednesday afternoon winning their first contest of the season 4-1. In their third match in three days, North Posey played against Evansville Reitz losing to the Panthers 4-1. For the season, North Posey’s record is one win and three losses.

Southridge 3, North Posey 2: On Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Viking tennis team competed against the Southridge Raiders in a home match. This was also a conference contest between the two schools.

North Posey is off to a slow start losing another close match 3-2 to have their season record drop to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the Pocket Athletic Conference. In the One Singles competition, Jaz Ward of North Posey lost to Riley Blessinger of Southridge by two sets 6-6 (3-7) and 4-6.

During the Two Singles match, Braelyn Barrett of North Posey beat Elizabeth Mehringer of Southridge by two sets 6-4 and 6-1. Kylee Heath of North Posey defeated Olivia Rasche of Southridge by two sets 6-1 and 6-4.

For One Doubles play, Haven Barton/Cassie Bender-Staples of North Posey lost to Mya Menke/Reagan Anderson of Southridge by two sets 1-6 and 3-6. In the Two Doubles contest, Anna Luigs/Mady Nightingale of North Posey lost against Laney Bardwell/Ayden Kramer of Southridge by three sets 2-6, 6-3, and 3-6.

North Posey 4, Pike Central 1: The Lady Vikings posted their first win of the season defeating the Pike Central Lady Chargers 4-1. For the season, North Posey improved their record to one win and two losses. In the PAC, the Lady Vikings are now 1-2.

In One Singles competition, Jaz Ward of North Posey defeated Sydney Burdette of Pike Central in two sets 6-3 and 6-3. Braelyn Barrett of North Posey won the Two Singles match over Kyndall McCutchan of Pike Central by two sets 6-2 and 6-1. During the Three Singles match, Anna Luigs of North Posey beat Callie Craig of Pike Central by three sets 5-7, 7-5, and 10-1.

For the One Doubles contest, Haven Barton/Cassie Bender-Staples of North Posey lost to Heidi Woodford/Ella Readle of Pike Central in three sets 6-4, 1-6, and 1-6. Peyton Wassmer/Mady Nightingale of North Posey won the Two Doubles competition against Taylen Bailey/Halie Brock of Pike Central in two sets 6-0 and 6-1.

The North Posey junior varsity team swept Pike Central in all the matches. Winning their matches for North Posey were singles players Raela Cullum, and Janniah Garrett along with doubles teams of Claire Will/Emily Schmitt and Maya Mauck/Emalyn Raber.

Evansville Reitz 4, North Posey 1: Last Thursday afternoon, the Lady Vikings went to the Westside of Evansville to take on the Reitz Lady Panthers. North Posey came into this game winning their previous match against Pike Central looking to build a two-game winning streak. Reitz was a little too much beating North Posey 4-1. This loss dropped the Lady Vikings season record to one win and three losses.

In the One Singles contest, Jaz Ward of North Posey lost to Jayci Bradtmiller of Reitz by two sets 1-6 and 0-6. Braelyn Barrett of North Posey lost the Two Singles match against Olivia Burke of Reitz by two sets 3-6 and 3-6. For the Three Singles match, Anna Luigs of North Posey was defeated by Jessica Sandefur of Reitz by two sets 1-6 and 1-6.

Mady Nightingale/Peyton Wassmer of North Posey lost the One Doubles match against Anika Smith/Ella Hausmann of Reitz by two sets 5-7 and 3-6. Haven Barton/Cassie Bender-Staples of North Posey won the Two Doubles competition against Joley Bigham/Piper of Reitz by two sets 6-4 and 6-2.

Receiving junior varsity points in the Evansville Reitz match for the Vikings are Raela Cullum, Molly George, Janniah Garrett, Claire Will, and Emily Schmitt.
