Vikings on two-game win streak beat Alices, Chargers

This was by far the toughest part of the schedule for the North Posey baseball team. Last Monday, the Vikings faced Class 4A, fourth ranked Evansville North Huskies and lost 11-0. On Tuesday, North Posey played undefeated Heritage Hills, which was ranked eleventh in Class 3A, losing 18-1.

North Posey bounced back on Wednesday afternoon defeating Vincennes Lincoln 6-2 to snap a two-game losing streak. The Vikings closed out the week last Thursday night on the road at Pike Central, beating the Chargers 11-1 to win their second straight game, plus improve their season record to six wins and four losses.

Evansville North 11, North Posey 0 (5 Innings): Last Monday afternoon, the Vikings played at home against the Evansville North Huskies. The North Huskies are currently ranked fourth in the Class 4A poll, plus they were the Class 4A state runner-up last year.

The Huskies showed why they are one of the best teams in the state by defeating North Posey 11-0 in five innings. Currently, North is undefeated with seven wins and no losses. Through seven games, North has outscored their opponents 72-4. The Vikings came into this game riding a three-game winning streak.

North Posey was held to two hits as a team through the five innings played. Grant Cullman and Zeke Roosevelt were the only Vikings to get hits in the game. Davin Sullivan had two walks and a stolen base, while Remington Johnson walked once. Parker Magill took the loss pitching for North Posey.

For the season, North Posey record dropped to four wins and three losses. On the season, North Posey is 2-3 in home games and 2-0 on the road. On the eleven runs scored by Evansville North, the Huskies had twelve hits in the game. Five players in the Huskies lineup had multiple hits in this contest.

Brooks Carroll of Evansville North went three for four with a double, home run, two runs batted in and three runs scored. Carson Fromme went two for three with a double, home run, one RBI and a run scored. AJ Baggett went two for three with a home run, three RBIs, and three runs.

Daniel Cranick went two for three with a double, three RBIs and a score. Gideon Price had two hits for the Huskies. The winning pitcher was Aiden Huebner. For the game, Huebner threw three innings allowing two hits, no runs, one walk with three strikeouts. Jaxon Edmond threw two innings, giving up no hits, no runs, two walks with four strikeouts.

Heritage Hills 18, North Posey 1 (5 Innings): The schedule continues to be brutal this season. Last Tuesday evening, the Vikings played at home against Class 3A, eleventh ranked and undefeated Heritage Hills Patriots. This Patriot team is stacked with great baseball players to include Peyton Gray who signed with Western Kentucky to play for the Hilltoppers next season.

Heritage Hills led the entire game, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, three more runs in the top of the third, two in the fourth and ten runs in the fifth inning to cripple the Vikings from making a comeback. On another note, Heritage Hills had four players in their lineup that all had batting averages over 600.

North Posey was held to four hits as a team in this matchup. Grant Cullman, Brennon Reich, Dylan Detty, and Joey Hisch each had one hit in the game. Cullman’s hit went for a double. Four other Vikings walked in the game with Davin Sullivan, Parker Magill, Zeke Roosevelt, and Will Bippus.

The Vikings went through four pitchers in the five-inning loss. Roosevelt received the loss on the pitcher’s mound for North Posey. Peyton Gray was awarded the winning pitcher for Heritage Hills throwing three innings, allowing three hits, one run, four walks, with five strikeouts on 66 pitches.

For the game, Heritage Hills had 13 hits in the game. Micah Toler hit a double and home run, followed by Francisco Mendoza with two doubles, and Marshall Snyder with a triple. Four Patriots had multiple hits in the contest.

North Posey 6, Vincennes Lincoln 2: The Viking baseball team played their third game in three straight days last Wednesday afternoon at home against the Vincennes Lincoln Alices. North Posey came into this game on a two-game losing streak.

Vincennes Lincoln scored the first run of the game in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. In the bottom of the second inning, North Posey took the lead after scoring two runs. The Alices tied the game 2-2 in the top of the third inning.

During the bottom of the third inning, North Posey scored three runs beginning with Grant Cullman’s homer on a fly ball over left field fence along with Joey Hisch scoring to make the game 4-2 in favor of the Vikings. A few batters later, Lane Young hit a double. Then Remi Johnson also hit a double with Young scoring a run to make the score 5-2.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Brennon Reich walked to start the inning. Reich made it to third base on a wild pitch. A few hitters later, Tyce Toker hit a sacrifice fly to left field. Reich tagged up on third and ran to home plate to give North Posey a 6-2 advantage, which eventually went on to be the final score.

Remi Johnson got the win pitching. Johnson threw a complete game (seven innings), allowing three hits, two runs, four walks, with four strikeouts on 105 pitches thrown. North Posey had four hits in the game as a team.

Grant Cullman went one for three hitting with a home run, two RBIs, and a run scored. Lane Young went one for one with a double, a walk and two runs. Remi Johnson went one for one with a double, two walks, one RBI and a run. Joey Hisch went one for three with a run.

Brennon Reich walked and scored a run. Tyce Toker and Zeke Roosevelt each had one run batted in. Davin Sullivan with a walk. For the season, North Posey improved their record to five wins and four losses. Vincennes Lincoln’s record fell to three wins and two losses.

North Posey 11, Pike Central 1: The Vikings baseball team went on the road last Thursday night to play against the Pike Central Chargers. North Posey was working towards building a two-game winning streak. That is exactly what the Vikings did, defeating the Chargers 11-1. With the win, North Posey won their second straight game, plus improved their season record to six wins and four losses. In the PAC, the Vikings are 3-1. Pike Central’s season record is 0-7.

North Posey got on the scoreboard by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, one in the second, two in the fourth, four runs in the sixth, and one run in the seventh to beat Pike Central 11-1. The Chargers scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Grant Cullman pitched for the Vikings and was awarded the win on the mound. Cullman threw five innings, giving up two hits, no runs, two walks, with ten strikeouts on 87 pitches. Brennon Reich threw the final two innings, allowing two hits, one run, no walks with four strikeouts on 26 pitches.

The Vikings as a team had sixteen hits in the game. Leading the way hitting for North Posey was sophomore Lane Young going four for five with two runs batted in. Davin Sullivan went two for three hitting with a triple, two runs, two RBIs, two walks, and three stolen bases. Remington Johnson went two for five at the plate, with a double, two runs, and a stolen base.

Brennon Reich and Will Bippus were both two for five hitting with two RBIs, and a run scored. Zeke Roosevelt went one for four with a double, two RBIs, and a walk. Grant Cullman went one for six with one stolen base and a run.

Joey Hisch went one for three with two runs, hit by a pitch, and a stolen base. Tyce Toker had one hit in three attempts. Parker Magill walked, stole a base, and scored a run. Ben Freeman also scored a run in this game.
