Rita Mae Martin, 73, of Poseyville, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, June 22, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Rita was born on September 14, 1952, in Evansville, to the late Kenneth and Genevieve (McMillen) Perry. She was a 1970 graduate of North High School and had worked for Dr. Koehler, Dr. Schmidt, the Evansville State Hospital, and retired from Vanderburgh and Posey County FSA office. She dearly loved her dogs and through her life had rescued many. Rita was the recipient of a double lung transplant in 2014.
Surviving Rita are her husband of 54 years, Mike Martin; children, Erin (Chad Shafer) Norwood, Brandon (Amy) Martin, Lindsay (John) Schaefer, and Lauren (Brian) Lasher; brothers, Dennis (Ellen) Perry and Kelvin (Kasey) Perry; grandchildren, Blake Regel, McKenzie, Mason, Tristan, Taylor, and Bailey Norwood, Drew Martin, Ellie, Chloe, and Henry Lasher, with one more on the way; and a great-grandson, Colton Marx.
There was a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026, at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Rev. Ed Schnur officiating. Burial followed in the St. Wendel Church Cemetery.
Friends visited with the family from 4 until 7 p.m. on Thursday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street and from 9 a.m. until service time on Friday at St. Wendel Catholic Church, 10542 W. Boonville New Harmony Road.
Rita’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Heart to Heart Hospice and the transplant team at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for all of their kind and compassionate care.
