Richard P. Leinenweaver


Richard P. Leinenweaver, 44, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on August 20, 2026, following an accident on the Ohio River on August 15. He was located on August 20 after an extensive search involving numerous first responders and assisting agencies. The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to everyone who took part in the search and offered their support during this difficult time.


Richard was born January 25, 1982, in Riverside, Ca., the son of Paul Douglas Leinenweaver and Lillian Rose (Fretz) Cole. He worked as a claims adjuster for APCO.


Richard loved his family dearly and especially enjoyed spending time with his wife and children. He enjoyed being outdoors and spending time in nature, particularly boating and fishing. He also enjoyed working on cars and had an interest in RC cars. More recently, Richard had begun exploring his interest in drones and enjoyed learning and trying new things.


Richard will be remembered for the love he had for his family and the time he enjoyed spending with those closest to him. His family will cherish the many memories they made together.


Richard is survived by his wife, Danielle (Miller) Leinenweaver; children, Gabriel, Simon, and Daniel Leinenweaver, Starla Leinenweaver, Richard Leinenweaver, Jr., Kailey Remish, and Aubrie Futrell; brothers, Paul and Kevin Leinenweaver; mother and father-in-law, Margo and Don Miller; sisters-in-law, Rebecca (Kyle) Pettyjohn and Emily Miller; brother-in-law, Donnie (Arianna) Miller; and many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his father.


Family and friends may gather at Denning Family Funeral Home on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. to celebrate Richard’s life and share stories and memories of a life that will be remembered and cherished by those who knew and loved him.
