Margaret Elnor Knight-Moll

Margaret Elnor Knight-Moll, 95, passed peacefully at her home in New Harmony on June 5, 2026.

Margaret was born August 13, 1930 in Equality, Ill., to Allegra and Web Healy, the second-eldest of four. She adored her siblings - Paul, Floyd, and Betty, and remained close with all of them throughout her life. When Margaret was 7, the family relocated to Mt. Vernon, Ind., living in the country near Upton, where her father farmed. Posey County remained her home for the rest of her life.

Margaret was known as a dynamic and devoted member of her community, with a constant and ever-expanding social circle. Her senior year of high school, she was crowned Basketball Queen—something she’d never anticipated could happen for her when she was growing up on the farm. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1948. Throughout her life, she was an active member of many clubs and organizations, including a Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority, Western Hills Country Club, and Country Mark Golf Club.

She married Edsel Knight on December 26, 1948, and they raised their four children in Bufkin. Life on the farm was grueling-when they first moved into their house on Breeze Road, they had no indoor plumbing. She cooked three meals a day for her family and farmhands, driving meals out to the fields to deliver them at lunchtime.

Margaret was a tireless worker. When she was 15, she took a job as the bookkeeper and secretary at Gronomier’s Department Store in Mt. Vernon. She was supposed to be 16 for the job, and when the manager asked her age, he replied, “You’re 16 now.” She used her paychecks to buy clothes at the store that she would put on layaway until she could pay for them in full. (Fashion was a lifelong joy for her. She was a skilled seamstress and made clothes for herself and her children, and shopping was one of her favorite hobbies her whole life.)

Later in life, she got her real estate license and sold homes for 15 years with Bayer Real Estate. Margaret took golf lessons in her free time, and golfed all summer with her family and friends until she was 90 years old. In addition to golfing, she loved travelling. Some of her favorite trips included Israel, Taiwan, and Ireland. Margaret also enjoyed reading, word games, and playing cards.

She married Jake Moll in 1995, and became part of yet another expansive and loving family. She and Jake enjoyed a life together until his death in 2003.

Unquestionably, the cornerstone of Margaret’s life, other than her family, was her Christian faith. She was a member at Mt. Pleasant General Baptist Church in Bufkin for more than six decades, where she was the pianist and sang in the choir for a time. She loved God with all her heart, and believed deeply in Jesus’ teachings.

Throughout her life, she demonstrated great strength, grace, faith, and generosity, and she will be deeply missed.

Margaret is survived by her children Daniel (Missie Carrigan) Knight, Brent (Nancy) Knight, and Michele “Soleil” Knight Blaize; daughter-in-law, Boni Knight; grandchildren, Lori (Brian) Knight-Gale, Nicholas (Joianne Bittle) Knight, Tim (Sarah) Knight, Chris Knight, Wesley Knight, Shanti Knight, Ashley (Trey) Dorsam, Collin Knight, and Sinjin Blaize; great-grandchildren, Kate (Chad) Iovino, Brett Ford, Henry Knight, William Knight, and Ellie Dorsam; step-children, Kenny (Carol) Moll, Joe (Karen) Moll, John (Sherry) Moll, Marita Moll, and Steve (Tammy) Moll; and many more step-grandchildren, and step-great-grandchildren; aunt, Doris Lee, her sister, Betty Wade, her cousin and dear friend, Mary Lou Hancock; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
