Girls tennis in Posey is over

The North Posey girls’ tennis team played their first game of the Indiana High School Athletic Association Sectional 10 from Mount Vernon High School last Saturday. In their first contest was against the winner of the Mount Vernon-Evansville Central match. The Central Bears beat Mount Vernon 5-0.

(Sectional Semifinal) North Posey 3, Evansville Central 2: For their first game of the IHSAA Tennis tournament, the Lady Vikings played against the Evansville Central Lady Bears. This matchup was no walk in the park with North Posey escaping with a 3-2 win over Central to advance to the sectional championship for the first time since the 2019 season.

During the One Singles match, Jaz Ward (NP) beat Lydia Aldridge (C) by two sets 6-0 and 6-2. In the Two Singles contest, Braelyn Barrett (NP) defeated Ava Brown (C) by two sets 7-5 and 6-2. Kylee Heath (NP) won the Three Singles match over Haddie Rohrscheib (C) by two sets 6-1 and 6-4.

In doubles play, Haven Barton/Cassie Bender-Staples (NP) lost the One Doubles match against Jaelin Clem/Ava Scales (C) 6-4, 2-6, and 0-6. Madie Strahle/Morgan Poellein (C) beat Mady Nightingale/Peyton Wassmer (NP) in the Two Doubles match by three sets 5-7, 6-6(7-5), and 10-5.

(Sectional Championship) Evansville Mater Dei 5, North Posey 0: The Lady Vikings played in the sectional championship game for the first time since the 2019 season. North Posey faced a very good Evansville Mater Dei team.

The Lady Wildcats swept the Lady Vikings in all five matches to end their season with nine wins and ten losses. In the One Singles match, Jaz Ward (NP) lost against Gwen Hertel (MD) by two sets 5-7 and 4-6. Braelyn Barrett (NP) lost the Two Singles competition against Abigail Smith (MD) by two sets 0-6 and 0-6. For the Three Singles contest, Kylee Heath (NP) lost against Josie Walker (MD) by three sets 3-6, 6-1, and 4-6.

During doubles play, Haven Barton/Cassie Bender Staples (NP) lost One Doubles match against Lily Fehrenbacher/Natalie Weber (MD) by two sets 0-6 and 2-6. In the Two Doubles match, Mady Nightingale/Peyton Wassmer (NP) lost against Piper Fehrenbacher/Lucy Rohleder (MD) by two sets 0-6 and 0-6.
