Wildcats third, Vikings sixth at PAC Wrestling Championships

By Chris Morlan

The Pocket Athletic Conference Championship was held at Memorial Gymnasium in Huntingburg last Friday hosted by Southridge High School. This conference meet was moved up a day early due to the bad weather coming to the area on Saturday.

Tell City was originally supposed to host this event, but conference officials changed the venue to Huntingburg Memorial Gym at the last minute. There were thirteen schools competing for a championship. To place in the PAC Tournament, you must finish in the top six of your weight class.

The two high schools from Posey County wrestled well at the PAC Championships. Mount Vernon as a team placed third with 124.5 points. North Posey finished sixth as a team with 107.5 points. Heritage Hills won for the second straight year with a team score of 206.5 points. Gibson Southern finished second with 161.5 points. Tecumseh was fourth as a team in scoring 114 points and Boonville in fifth place with 108.5 points.

The Wildcats had thirteen wrestlers compete in the fourteen weight classes. Ten of the thirteen Wildcat wrestlers placed in the top six of their weight class. North Posey had seven wrestlers competing and did not have wrestlers participate in seven other weight classes. Six of the seven Viking wrestlers placed in the top six of their weight class.

One wrestler from Posey County won their weight class and that was junior Tyson Barrow of North Posey winning the 175-pound weight class. Barrow (30-2) pinned all four of his opponents during the meet.
