Viking wrestling puts on good performance at Union Co. duals

The North Posey boys wrestling team competed at the Bryce Sheffer Duals at Union County High School in Morganfield, Kentucky on Saturday, January 17. This was a round robin dual competition starting off in dual matches against three schools and the fourth dual for a team placing.

There were eight high school wrestling teams at this event from Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky. North Posey won one and lost three duals at this event. North Posey defeated Union County B 39-30. The Vikings lost to Boyle County of Kentucky 48-22 and Louisville Trinity 54-19. In the fifth-place competition, North Posey lost to Triad from Illinois by the score of 54-21 to place sixth as a team.

Three Viking wrestlers won all their matches at this dual meet. Going undefeated on the day from North Posey were Aslan Templeton (132), Cody Fitts (157), and Parker Wehmer (120). Tyson Barrow (175) had three wins and one loss on the day.

Winning as a team was Union County A from Kentucky placed first. Boyle County, Kentucky finished second, followed by Oldham County, Kentucky in third place, Louisville Trinity in fourth place, Triad, Illinois in fifth place, North Posey in sixth place, Henderson County in seventh place, and Union County B in eighth place.

Boyle County 48, North Posey 22: Winning their matches for North Posey were Aslan Templeton (132), Caden Wright (190), and Cody Fitts (157) each pinning their opponent. Parker Wehmer (120) won his match by major decision.

North Posey 39, Union County B 30: This was the Vikings only win at this tough dual contest with some of the best teams in the state of Kentucky. The following Viking wrestlers who won their matches by pin were Tyson Barrow (175), Adam Gray (144), Aslan Templeton (132), Caden Wright (190), Cody Fitts (157), and Parker Wehmer (120). Samual Mort (150) won his match in sudden victory by decision (13-10).

Louisville Trinity 54, North Posey 19: In this dual, the Vikings faced one of the best teams from Kentucky. North Posey only had four wrestlers win their weight classes. Tyson Barrow (175), and Cody Fitts (157) each won their matches by fall. Parker Wehmer (120) won his contest by major decision (16-3). Aslan Templeton (132) won his match by decision (9-3).

(Fifth Place) Triad 54, North Posey 21: Only four of the Viking eight wrestlers won their matches against Triad from Illinois. North Posey finished the meet with a sixth-place result. Tyson Barrow (175) and Parker Wehmer (120) each won their match with a pin. Cody Fitts (157) won his contest by technical fall (17-1). Aslan Templeton (132) beat his opponent by major decision (15-2).
