Water C. Waters

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Walter C. Waters, age 77, who departed this life on April 29, 2026, at his home in the comfort of his loved ones. He was born on October 10, 1948, to Cecil and Martha (Utley) Waters.

Walter was a beloved husband, father, Papaw, uncle, and friend. He leaves behind a legacy marked by hard work, strong friendships, and a well-known streak of grumpiness - if you know, you know.

He shared 54 beautiful years of marriage with his devoted wife, Linda, and together they built a life in the St. Philip/Mount Vernon, Indiana area. A proud U.S. Navy veteran, he served three and a half years before beginning a long career with General Electric. Later, Walter and Linda opened a small engine shop, which they proudly operated together for the remainder of his working years.

Walter will be lovingly remembered for his open-door shop, where many entered as customers and often left as friends - though many didn’t want to leave at all.

Walter is survived by his by his wife, Linda (Miller) Waters; his two sons, Bryan (Janelle) Waters and Robert (Sandy) Waters; his brother, Roger (Synda) Waters; and his six grandchildren, Kathryn Grace, Emberlyn, Derek, Hayley, Journey, and Spencer Waters. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN with Fr. Allen Rutherford officiating.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. service time on Thursday at the funeral home.

Walter’s presence, humor, and steady hands will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Forever in our hearts.
