Arby Ray ‘Chuck’ Mason

Arby Ray “Chuck” Mason, 88, of Mt. Vernon, went to be home with the Lord on April 28, 2026, at the Linda E. White Hospice House, with his family by his side.
Arby graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1955, where he excelled in Track & Field, and in 1989, was inducted into the Mt. Vernon High School Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of the undefeated 1954 Wildcat football team. Arby was a member of the Indiana National Guard. He retired in 2000 from Southern Indiana Gas & Electric (SIGECO) after 41 years of service. Arby was a member of Bible Center Cathedral in Evansville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arby David and Daisy (Blackford) Mason, by his wife of 54 years, Emily (Uhde) Mason, brother, Dennis Mason, and sister, Goldie Marshall.
He is survived by his son, Timothy Mason, daughter and son-in-law, Tamara and Rusty Counts, grandson, Nathan; brothers Alfred Mason (Margaret) and Jon Mason (Carolyn); sisters Mary Gardener, Esther Johnson, Sharon Burdette (Bob), Cathy Wagner (George), and Martha Schaffer (Ed); along with several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 1 p.m., on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Denning Family Funeral Home, 1330 E Fourth St., Mt. Vernon, IN 47620, with burial following in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Visitation was from 11 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Linda E. White Hospice House - C/O Deaconess Foundation, 600 Mary St., Evansville, IN 47710, or to a charity of choice.
