Vikings snap two-game losing streak, beat Princeton 2-1

The North Posey baseball team started off the spring season a little slow. After the heartbreaking 8-4 loss to Mount Carmel last Monday. North Posey rattled off three straight wins over Princeton (2-1) on Tuesday, Tell City (11-0) on Thursday, and Perry Central (2-0) on Saturday. North Posey’s season record is four wins and two losses.
North Posey 2, Perry Central 0: Last Saturday morning, North Posey played a home game against the Perry Central Commodores. This was a low scoring matchup that went to North Posey by the final score of 2-0. With the win, North Posey improved their season record to four wins and two losses. Plus, the Vikings are also on a three-game winning streak.
The Vikings got things going in the bottom of the first inning with Grant Cullman hitting a single that scored Remington Johnson to give North Posey a 1-0 advantage. In the bottom of the second inning, Ben Freeman singled on a line drive to center field that helped score Tyce Toker, giving the Vikings a 2-0 lead.
Viking sophomore pitcher Brennon Reich was awarded the winning pitcher. Reich threw a complete seven inning game, allowing two hits, no runs, one walk, with twelve strikeouts on seventy-nine pitches thrown.
North Posey was held to three hits in this game as a team. Grant Cullman went two for three hitting with a double and a run batted in. Ben Freeman went one for two while driving in one run. Tyce Toker scored a run, stole a base, and walked. Remington Johnson stole a base and scored a run.
North Posey 11, Tell City 0: The Vikings played a great game last Thursday night at home against the Tell City Marksmen. North Posey was shooting to build their first winning streak of the season, while Tell City was trying to snap a three-game losing streak.
In the bottom of the first inning, North Posey scored runs from Grant Cullman and Brennon Reich to then lead 2-0. The Vikings rallied in the bottom of the third inning, scoring four runs that was led by Lane Young hitting a double and Tyce Toker hitting a three-run home run on a fly ball over left field fence to extend their advantage to 6-0.
North Posey scored five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to build their lead up to 11-0. Zeke Roosevelt, Brennon Reich, Davin Sullivan, Tyce Toker, and Will Bippus each scored a run in the fourth inning. This game was over in the fifth inning with North Posey defeating Tell City 11-0.
For the season, North Posey improved their season record to three wins and two losses. It was also the Vikings second straight win in a row. Remington Johnson got the win for the Vikings pitching. Johnson threw five innings, allowing three hits, no runs, three walks with six strikeouts.
Lane Young, Tyce Toker, and Will Bippus each had two hits in this contest. Young went two for three with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored. Toker went two for three with a home run, three runs batted in and two scores. Bippus was two for three, along with driving in a run and scoring a run. Zeke Roosevelt and Joey Hisch each had one hit in this win.
North Posey 2, Princeton 1: If you were at Gil Hodges Field in Princeton last Tuesday night for the matchup between the Vikings and Tigers. You saw low scoring pitchers dual. This contest had a total of five hits between the two schools in this seven-inning game.
North Posey received a strong outing on the pitcher’s mound from Will Bippus holding Princeton to only one hit in 5.1 innings thrown to defeat the Tigers by the final score of 2-1. A much-needed win for the Vikings after losing the previous last two games.
The Vikings also remain undefeated early in this season in the Pocket Athletic Conference with the win over Princeton with a 1-0 record. For the season, North Posey improved their record to two wins and two losses.
Princeton got on the scoreboard first by scoring a run in the bottom of the first inning. Jaron Clutter singled a flyball to centerfield, which ended being the only hit of the game for the Tigers. Then David Miller hit a flyball by reaching base on an error that helped Princeton score Clutter. After one inning of play, Princeton led 1-0.
In the top of the second inning, North Posey evened up the game starting with Davin Sullivan reaching the bases on a fielding error by the Princeton first baseman. A few batters later, Joey Hisch singled on a flyball to right field allowing Sullivan to score a run and tie the game at one apiece.
During the top of the fourth inning, Tyce Toker hit a ground ball, reaching safely to first base on a fielding error by the Tigers first baseman. Will Bippus also reached base on a fielding error that helped Toker score a run to give North Posey a 2-1 advantage that later end up being the final score.
Bippus was awarded the winning pitcher in this contest. For the game, Bippus only allowed one hit, one run, four walks with six strikeouts in 5.1 innings on the bump. Bippus threw 84 pitches with 46 going for strikes on 23 batters faced. Grant Cullman finished the final 1.2 innings of the game securing the victory by allowing no hits or runs with one walk and striking out two batters on 20 pitches.
Princeton pitcher Jaron Clutter threw a great game for the Tigers in the loss. For this contest, Clutter threw all seven innings, allowing four hits, two runs, one walk with nine strikeouts on 89 pitches thrown.
As a team, North Posey only had four hits in this game. Remington Johnson led the Vikings in hitting by going two for three at the plate with a walk. Davin Sullivan went one for three hitting with a run scored. Joey Hisch went one for three with one run batted in.
Mount Carmel 8, North Posey 4: The North Posey baseball team played at home last Monday afternoon against the Mount Carmel Golden Aces. North Posey was looking to snap back from the loss to Evansville Reitz in their previous game.
This game looked like North Posey was in control of this matchup through five innings played by the score of 4-1. At the top of the sixth inning, Mount Carmel scored three runs to tie the game to 4-4. The Golden Aces rallied in the top of the seventh inning, scoring four more runs to win 8-4. North Posey went through six different pitchers in this seven-inning outing.
North Posey has now lost two straight games and their record dropped to one win and two losses. Mount Carmel improved their season record to four wins and four losses. Leading the way for the Golden Aces was River Deisher, going three for four hitting with a double, one run batted in and one run scored. Logan Mosby of Mount Carmel went two for four at the plate with two RBIs.
In this contest, North Posey had nine hits on the four runs scored. Brennon Reich and Lane Young each had two hits in the game. Remington Johnson and Davin Sullivan each hit a triple in this matchup. Also getting a hit for North Posey was Zeke Roosevelt, Tyce Toker, and Ben Freeman.
