Lady Vikings destroy Rangers in conference opener 18-4

The North Posey Lady Viking softball team played six games last week with four of them at the Third Annual Castle Invitational which showed some of the best teams in the area and state.

Last Monday afternoon, the Lady Vikings beat Forest Park 18-4. On Thursday afternoon, North Posey played against Class 3A, seventh ranked Gibson Southern losing 3-0. On Friday afternoon, North Posey played against Columbus North in their first game of the Castle Invitational. Columbus North beat North Posey 14-7. Last Friday night, North Posey defeated Monrovia 20-10.

North Posey faced the Class 4A, twelfth ranked Fishers Tigers. The Lady Vikings were hitless and scoreless in a 10-0 loss. On Saturday afternoon, North Posey played Evansville North losing to the Huskies on a walk-off double 5-4. For the season, North Posey’ season record is five wins and five losses.

North Posey 18, Forest Park 4: Last Monday afternoon, the North Posey softball team played at home in their first conference game of the season against the Forest Park Lady Rangers. The Lady Vikings started this game off showing who was in control by scoring runs in each inning they stepped to the plate winning by the final score of 18-4 in five innings.

North Posey scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning, three in each of the second and third innings, along with another seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to cruise to this win. For the season, North Posey won their second straight game and improved their record to four wins, one loss. Forest Park’s season record dropped to one win and three losses.

As a team, North Posey had 16 hits on the 18 runs scored. Each of the nine North Posey starters had at least one hit in this game. Ayela Hoehn had three hits, followed by Lily Hester, Taryn Wilson, Paige Vaughn, Madison Versteeg, and Makenna Hoehn each had two hits in this contest. Alyssa Sanders, Kayla Lindenschmidt, and Avery Sanders each had one hit apiece in this victory. Getting extra base hits were Vaughn with a triple and Makenna Hoehn with a double.

Sophomore Alli Esche went the distance pitching all five innings for the Lady Vikings. Esche gave up only five hits, four runs, one walk with no strikeouts on 63 pitches thrown in the circle. 49 of the 63 pitches went for a strike on 22 batters faced.

Gibson Southern 3, North Posey 0: The Lady Viking softball team went on the road last Thursday night to play against a very good Gibson Southern team. North Posey could not get their bats going and were held to three hits in the game as a team in this three-run loss.

The Lady Titans scored one run in each of the first, third, and fifth innings to get the win. Gibson Southern had six hits in the game as a team. Carly Potts of Gibson Southern (University of Iowa softball commit) went three for three hitting with two doubles and three runs batted in.

Titan pitcher Miley Sperling got the win in the circle for Gibson Southern. Sperling threw seven innings, allowing three hits, no runs, one walk with five strikeouts on 84 pitches. For the season, Gibson Southern improved their season record to seven wins and four losses. North Posey snapped a two-game winning streak losing to Gibson Southern. The Lady Vikings now have four wins and two losses.

The three hits from North Posey came from Lily Hester, Paige Vaughn, and Kayla Lindenschmidt. Taryn Wilson got on base once from a walk. Alli Esche took the loss in the pitcher’s circle for North Posey. Esche threw four innings, gave up five hits, two runs, one walk with two strikeouts. Ayela Hoehn threw the final two innings for North Posey, allowing one hit, one run, two walks with a strikeout.

(Castle Invitational) Columbus North 14, North Posey 3: This was the Lady Vikings first game of the Third Annual Castle Softball Invitational at Deaconess Sports Park last Friday night. In their first game, North Posey faced a very good Columbus North team.

North Posey played well, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. Then Columbus North pulled an Ivan Drago like thing from the movie Rocky IV, scoring eight runs along with another three scores in the each of the third and fourth innings to beat the Lady Vikings in five innings.

The Lady Vikings were held to three hits in the game as a team. Lily Hester, Paige Vaughn, and Ayela Hoehn each had one hit in the game for North Posey. Alli Esche took the loss in the pitcher’s circle for the Lady Vikings throwing three innings, allowing thirteen hits, eleven runs, one walk, with one strikeout.

This was the Lady Vikings’ second loss in a row dropping their season record to four wins and three losses. As for Columbus North, the Lady Bulldogs season record improved to four wins and three losses.

(Castle Invitational) North Posey 20, Monrovia 10: The Lady Vikings snapped a two-game losing streak defeating the Monrovia Bulldogs by a football score 20-10. North Posey scored four runs in the top of the first inning. Then Monrovia scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning to then lead 5-4.

Monrovia scored one run in each of the second, third, and fourth innings, then another two runs in the bottom of the fifth. North Posey scored one run in the top of the third inning, three runs in the top of the fourth inning, then four runs each in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to put this game out of reach, giving the Vikings a 20-10 victory. Six players from North Posey had multiple hits in this game.

North Posey had fifteen hits on the twenty runs scored in this game. Lily Hester went three for four with four RBIs, four runs, one walk, stolen base, and once hit by a pitch. Paige Vaughn went two for four hitting with a double, three RBIs, two runs, two walks, and a stolen base. Makenna Hoehn was two for three from the plate with a double, two RBIs, three runs, a walk, and hit by a pitch.

Madison Versteeg went two for three with two RBIs, three walks, and a run scored. Taryn Wilson was two for six hitting, scoring two runs. Avery Sanders went two for three with two runs and a stolen base.

Savannah Lindenberg went one for four at the plate, with two runs and a walk. Callie Deakins went one for two with a run scored. Emmy Lou Pate walked twice and scored two runs. Hayden Barker drove in one run, scored a run, and walked. Ayela Hoehn had one walk.

Ayela Hoehn was awarded the winning pitcher. Hoehn threw five innings, allowing nine hits, nine runs, three walks, with two strikeouts on 99 pitches thrown. Avery Sanders threw the final two innings, giving up no hits, no runs, two walks with five strikeouts on 40 pitches. North Posey now has five wins and three losses in the season.

(Castle Invitational) Fishers 10, North Posey 0: In their first game played last Saturday morning, the Lady Vikings faced Class 4A, twelfth ranked Fishers Tigers in the second day of the Castle Invitational.

This contest got away from North Posey from the start, losing by the final score of 10-0 in five innings. The Lady Vikings were hitless in this game. Only three Lady Vikings reached base on either a walk or hit by a pitch.

Fisher’s pitcher Frankie Jackson threw a five-inning no-hitter against North Posey, allowing no hits, no runs, two walks, with two strikeouts on 60 pitches thrown. The Tigers had 14 hits on the ten runs scored.

Taryn Wilson and Ayela Hoehn each walked in this game. Madison Versteeg was hit by a pitch. Alli Esche took the loss in the pitcher’s circle for North Posey.

(Castle Invitational) Evansville North 5, North Posey 4: This was the second game played by the Lady Vikings last Saturday afternoon. North Posey tied the game at 4-4 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. That was when Payton Brashear of North hit a walk-off, double scoring Addison Mullin to beat the Lady Vikings 5-4.

North Posey had six hits in the game on the four runs scored. Ayela Hoehn went two for three with a run batted in. Paige Vaughn hit a double, drove in two runs and scored a run. Kayla Lindenschmidt hit a double and scored a run.

Taryn Wilson had one hit, scored a run, walked, and stole a base. Makenna Hoehn had one hit on three at bats. Lily Hester walked two times and scored a run. Avery Sanders walked one time.

The Vikings were scheduled to host Mount Vernon on Monday. The score of that game was not available at press time.
