Viking baseball snaps five game streak, beats Edgewood

What a rough week of baseball it was for the North Posey Vikings. Last week, the Vikings played against five different opponents and came into the week with a previous loss to Bedford North Lawrence on May 2 by the score of 7-3.
On Wednesday, the Vikings went to Northside of Evansville to play the Central Bears. A game many thought the Vikings should have won but lost by the final score of 10-0. On Thursday night, the Vikings went back on the road to play the Washington Hatchets. Many expected to win another game. Instead, it backfired, losing 12-2.
Then on Friday night, North Posey played their first of three games in the Jasper Tournament against the Barr-Reeve Vikings. North Posey led most of the game until the end when Barr-Reeve rallied back to score four runs in the bottom of the seventh to win 4-1.
The Vikings played two games last Saturday. There first opponent was Jasper with the Vikings losing in five innings 11-0 to give North Posey their fifth straight loss. On Saturday afternoon, the Vikings played Edgewood and snapped a five-game losing streak to beat the Mustangs 12-11. For the season, North Posey has eleven wins and ten losses.
Evansville Central 10, North Posey 0: In a game many expected the Vikings to win was the wrong outcome last Wednesday night on the Northside of Evansville when the Central Bears destroyed North Posey 10-0 in a game that was called in the sixth inning due to the ten-run rule. The Vikings were facing seven games in eight days and elgible pitching became an issue.
Central pitcher Aidan Vega held North Posey to three hits in the game. Vega threw six innings, giving up no runs, no walks, with four strikeouts on 67 pitches thrown. North Posey went through five different pitchers in the loss. Zeke Roosevelt received the loss on the pitcher’s mound.
For the game, the only hits for North Posey came from Davin Sullivan, Brennan Reich, and Ben Freeman. Sullivan went one for three with a stolen base. Reich and Freeman each went one for two at the plate.
North Posey has now lost two straight games in a row with their season record falling to ten wins and seven losses. The Vikings have five wins and three losses in road games. Central improved their season record to seven wins and ten losses. For the season, the Bears are 5-5 in home games.
Washington 12, North Posey 2: The Viking baseball team has hit a low point in their season as of late. North Posey played against the Washington Hatchets on the road last Thursday night.
This contest was scoreless through the first two innings played. North Posey scored a run in the top of the third inning to lead 1-0. Washington answered back, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third inning to gain a 2-1 advantage. North Posey tied the game to two apiece in the top of the fourth inning. The Hatchets rallied by scoring six runs in the fourth and four more runs in the fifth to defeat the Vikings by ten runs in five innings.
North Posey’s season record fell to 10-8. The Vikings are 4-3 in the Pocket Athletic Conference. This loss was the third in a row for the Vikings. Washington improved their record to 11-9. In the PAC, the Hatchets are 6-3. The Hatchets have now won three straight games.
Washington had five players get multiple hits in this matchup. North Posey was held to two hits on the two runs scored. Brennan Reich and Zeke Roosevelt had the only hits of the game for North Posey. Parker Magill took the loss on the pitcher’s mound for the Vikings.
Barr-Reeve 4, North Posey 1: On Friday night in their first game of the Jasper Tournament. North Posey faced a very hot Barr-Reeve team. This game was scoreless through two and a half innings. North Posey got things going by scoring a run in the bottom of the third inning.
That 1-0 advantage stood all the way until the final inning of the game. Barr-Reeve went on a terror, scoring four runs in the top of the seventh inning to beat North Posey 4-1. With the North Posey loss, that extended their streak to four games.
North Posey’s season record is now 10-9. Barr-Reeve improved their season record to fifteen wins and two losses. Currently, Barr-Reeve has won nine consecutive games in a row.
For the game, North Posey was held to four hits as a team. Remi Johnson went two for two hitting with one run batted in and a walk. Johnson also took the loss on the pitcher’s mound for North Posey; Ben Freeman went one for two with a stolen base and a run scored. Grant Cullman went one for three with a stolen base.
Jasper 11, North Posey 0: In their second game of the Jasper Tournament last Saturday morning. The Vikings played against the Jasper Wildcats. Another rough game for the Viking baseball team losing 11-0 in a game that was called in the fifth inning due to the ten-run rule. This loss dropped the Vikings season record to ten wins and ten losses. North Posey has now lost five straight games.
For the game, North Posey was held to one hit for the entire team. Dylan Detty got the only hit for the Vikings in his only batting appearance. Brennan Reich took the loss pitching for North Posey.
Bryce Wilz got the win pitching for Jasper. Wilz threw five innings, allowing one hit, no runs, no walks, with three strikeouts on 45 pitches thrown. Jasper as a team had eight hits in the contest. Kaiden Schmidt went two for three with a double, four RBIs, and two runs. Jack Levin went two for three hitting with a run scored.
North Posey 12, Edgewood 11: On Saturday afternoon, the Vikings played their final game of the Jasper Tournament. Their opponent was the Edgewood Mustangs. Prior to this matchup, North Posey had lost five games in a row. The Vikings found a way to beat the Mustangs and snapped a five-game losing streak.
Not only did North Posey win this game, but they also won by what you could call a football score or an elementary basketball score. There was a lot of offense in this battle. The Vikings rallied by scoring six runs in the top of the first inning. Then Edgewood scored five runs at the bottom of the first to make the score 6-5.
North Posey scored two runs in the second inning to then lead 8-5. In the top of the fourth inning, North Posey scored three runs to extend their lead up to 11-5. The Vikings scored one more run in the top of the fifth to then lead 12-5. Edgewood refused to go away, scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 12-10.
The Vikings didn’t score anymore runs for the remainder of the contest. Edgewood trailed North Posey 12-10, going into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Mustangs scored one run coming up short after the third out was called. North Posey escaped with a 12-11 victory over Edgewood.
For the game, North Posey had ten hits on the 12 runs scored in this matchup. Zeke Roosevelt smacked two home runs in this game along with three RBIs, and two runs scored. Lane Young went three for four with a triple. Remi Johnson went two for three with three runs, a walk, and a stolen base.
Grant Cullman went one for three with a double, two RBIs, and a run. Will Bippus went one for three with a double, and one run batted in. Bippus was also the winning pitcher for the Vikings throwing a complete seven inning game, giving up 11 hits, 11 runs, four walks, with three strikeouts on 113 pitches.
Brennan Reich went 1-for-4 at the plate, with two RBIs and a run. Davin Sullivan walked two times and scored two runs. Dylan Detty had two walks and one run scored. Ben Freeman and Joey Hisch each scored a run in this victory.
