Ronald E. Upshaw, 72, of Mt. Vernon, passed away on September 3, 2026, at Terrace of Solarbron. Ron was born on September 13, 1953, in New Harmony, the son of Eldon and Genevieve Upshaw.
Ron was married to his soulmate and best friend, Connie (Bryant) Upshaw, for 47 years, and she survives. Their life together was filled with family, memories, and the love they shared for one another.
Ron worked for General Electric before beginning a career with the American Red Cross, where he drove the blood transport vehicle. He was an avid sports fan, especially baseball, which was something he truly enjoyed.
One of Ron’s greatest joys was coaching. He was a youth baseball and softball coach, coaching his own children and other area youth. He also served as an assistant coach at the high school for a couple of years. Coaching gave Ron the opportunity to spend time with his children, something he truly cherished. Later, his grandchildren became another bright spot in his life, and he treasured the time he was able to spend with them.
Ron is survived by his wife, Connie Upshaw; children, Kristina (Nathan) Baehl and Korrie (Ann) Upshaw; grandchildren, Brayden and Mason Baehl, and Hadley and Huntlee Upshaw; sister-in-law, Geneva Upshaw; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Genevieve Upshaw; brother, Tom Upshaw; and sister, June Cunningham.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Denning Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with burial to follow at Bellefontaine Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Kidney Fund or the American Diabetes Association.
