John Louis Breiner

John Louis Breiner (89) of Mt. Vernon, Ind., passed away peacefully at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Ind., on Sept. 5, 2026. John was born July 6, 1937 to Charles Louis and Ola Breiner (nee Dixon) in southern Posey County where he lived all of his life. He dedicated his life to farming and his extended family. John and his wife, Darlene Breiner (nee Muehlenbein) celebrated 69 years of marriage in 2026.

John was a graduate of Mount Vernon High School Class of 1955 where he was very active in service projects and was the president of FFA.

John was proud to be a farmer in Posey County since he was a boy. His interests were centered around issues and topics that impacted farm life and business. He was a member of the Naval Reserve Sea Bees. John enjoyed hunting and fishing from boyhood on. He really enjoyed natural habitats where he found serenity and spiritual renewal.

John’s main concern was his family including his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. However, he had many friends from all generations. He was always willing to help family and friends anywhere and anytime – including strangers needing help along the road. In later years John enjoyed his daily phone calls with niece Julie Turner, gathering with new and old buddies, shelling pecans while listening to gospel music, traditional country music and watching evening TV especially the news.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years Darlene Breiner (nee Muehlenbein), son John L. Breiner II (Carla), daughters Sharon Breiner (Mark Ruholl), Teresa DeGiacomo (Frank), Lori Breiner (Wanda Swanson); 10 grandchildren including Amanda Green-Adams (Jason), Sarah Minnette (Colton), Brianna Mitchell (Jordan), Anna Clements (Justin) of NM, Emily Schultz (Peter) of NM, Megan Griffis (Jarrod) of SC, Frank John DeGiacomo of MA, Christopher DeGiacomo (Samantha) of MD; and 11 great grandchildren including Ethan and Elizabeth Adams, Braydn and Temperance Minnette, Amelia Mitchell, Jonathan and Samuel Clements, James and Isla Schulze, and Logan and Harrison Griffis.
