Robert ‘Bob’ Glenn Schmitzer

Robert “Bob” Glenn Schmitzer, age 74, of Mt. Vernon, Ind., passed away August 30, 2026. He was born March 14, 1952 in Evansville, Ind., to the late John and Mary Eleanor (Price) Schmitzer.

Bob graduated from Mt. Vernon High School with the Class of 1970 and proudly served in the United States Army Reserve. He spent more than 35 years as an independent oil producer and farmer and later retired from Mt. Vernon Barge–ARTCO after 18 years of dedicated service. Bob was a former member and Past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge 277. He was also a member of American Legion Owen Dunn Post 5, where he proudly served on the Honor Guard. Above all, Bob loved his family dearly and treasured every moment spent with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Vickie (McCormick) Schmitzer; daughter, Mindy (Jeremy) Bourne; son, Marc (Krista) Schmitzer; step-sons, Gary (Billy) Poole and Larry (Sirina) Poole; grandchildren, Austin, Ashlyn and Brayden Bourne and Emoni Nicole Poole; brothers, Gary Sr. (Marilyn) Schmitzer and David (Laura) Schmitzer; along with nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Service was held at 10 a.m., on Friday, September 4, 2026 at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main Street, Mt. Vernon, IN 47620 with Pastor Dallas Robinson officiating and burial to follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Military Rites to be performed by Owen Dunn Post 5 Honor Guard.

Visitation was held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at the funeral home.
