Ralph W. Lowe

Ralph W. Lowe, 73, of New Harmony, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of his wife, Denise, at his home on September 8, 2026. Ralph and Denise had been married for 51 years. Ralph was born on November 8, 1952, in West Terre Haute, Ind., the son of Eugene and Marianna “Hodges” Lowe.

As a child, Ralph was more at home exploring the outdoors in Tell City, Ind. He spent every day he could outside studying nature and the animals. After graduating high school, Ralph attended trade school and began his career with Local 136 Plumbers and Steamfitters, where he worked as a pipefitter. He remained dedicated to his career until his retirement.

Ralph was an avid outdoorsman who loved spending time outside. He especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, and beekeeping. Dad was known for his “storytelling” and “Ralphisms,” none of which should be repeated here. He was wild, fierce, and daring as a young man, yet always provided for his family or helped anyone who needed it.

Ralph took his son, Jeremiah, or J.D. as we call him, with him everywhere. They were best friends and shared their love of hunting, the outdoors, and working on cars. However, you’d better not lose a screw, hold the flashlight wrong, or tell him he was wrong. Screws then may go flying.

As his health declined and his daughter, Meghan, began to have children, lasting memories were made when he was able to bring his grandsons along with him on his outdoor adventures or attend one of their many ballgames. On school days, you could catch him sitting on the bench at Farmersville Elementary waiting to take them home from school.

Ralph was also a very handy man who could fix or figure out just about anything. To those who knew him, Ralph could “MacGyver” his way through almost any problem.

Ralph also took great pride in his large garden, where he grew and canned an abundance of fruits and vegetables. He enjoyed the work that went into his garden and the satisfaction of being able to share the things he had grown.

Above all, Ralph was a very proud grandpa. His grandchildren were the light of his world, and he treasured every opportunity to spend time with them, especially when he could teach them something, take them along on one of his outdoor adventures, or simply enjoy their company.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Denise “Nelson” Lowe; his children, Jeremiah Lowe and Meghan (Jose) Trevino; grandsons, Eli and Nate Trevino; sister, Joyce (Larry) Wagner; and two nieces, Carrie and Amy.

It cannot be said enough that Momma, with her unconditional love, took excellent care of Dad these last ten months of his life. She never left his side, even when most would have had to give up. God gave him a gift the day he married Mom. In lieu of flowers, please send monetary gifts or your time to those who are caring for a sick loved one. They need a break.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life for Ralph at a later date.
