Lady Wildcats continue to add to incredible win total

Members of the Mount Vernon High School softball team played two excellent games this week. They won the one and a late surge led to their loss in the second one.
On Wednesday, Alaina Allyn drove in five runs on three hits to lead Mt. Vernon Wildcats past Evansville Central’s Lady Bears 8-7. Allyn doubled in the third scoring two, singled in the fourth scoring one, and singled in the sixth scoring one.
The Wildcats built a 6-run lead in the fourth inning and then held off Central Lady Bears’ charge. The Lady Bears closed the gap by scoring on an error, a fly out, a single, a triple, and an error.
A ground out by Allyn put Mt. Vernon on the board in the bottom of the first.
The Wildcats added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning when Lacey Allyn doubled, scoring one run, A. Allynn doubled, scoring two runs, and Ali Lyke singled, scoring one.
Evansville Central flipped the game on its head in the top of the sixth, scoring seven runs on six hits to take the lead, 7-6. The biggest blow in the inning was a triple by Callista Walls that drove in three.
Mt. Vernon took the lead, 8-7, in the bottom of the sixth thanks to singles by A. Allyn and Lyke.
A. Allyn earned the win for the Wildcats. The starter allowed eight hits and seven runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out nine and walking one. Elizabeth Nobles took the loss for Evansville Central. The hurler went two innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out one and walking two. Molly Shirley led things off in the circle for the Lady Bears. The pitcher surrendered eight hits and six runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out four and walking one.
Mt. Vernon piled up 11 hits in the game. L. Allyn, Kai Wallace, and Lyke each collected multiple hits for Mt. Vernon .
The Wildcats fell to Southridge 6-5 on Friday on the final play of the game. The game was tied at five in the bottom of the seventh when Kenley Ferguson drew a walk, scoring one run.
Southridge got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Camryn Nalley tripled down the right field line, and Kori Hunefeld walked, each scoring one run.
The Wildcats took the lead, 3-2, in the top of the second thanks to singles by Lilly Watzlavik, and Kai Wallace.
Nalley singled down the right field line, which helped Southridge tie the game at three in the bottom of the second.
The Wildcats took the lead in the top of the third. A wild pitch scored one run, to give the Wildcats the upper hand, 4-3.
Madison Richardson singled to right field, which helped the Raiders tie the game at four in the bottom of the third.
Mt. Vernon took the lead in the top of the fifth. Brylea Anderson drew a walk, scoring one run, to give Mt. Vernon the lead, 5-4.
The Wildcats committed an error, which helped Southridge tie the game at five in the bottom of the sixth.
Richardson earned the win for Southridge. The reliever surrendered two hits and no runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking none. Alaina Allyn took the loss for Mt. Vernon. The hurler went three and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits, striking out four and walking one. Janie Bohleber led things off in the circle for the Wildcats. The starting pitcher surrendered five hits and four runs (three earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking four. Millie Hunter started in the circle for the Raiders. The starter gave up four hits and five runs over four and one-third innings, striking out two and walking three.
Wallace led Mt. Vernon with two runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The left fielder went 1-for-4 on the day. A. Allyn and Watzlavik each collected two hits for Mt. Vernon. The Wildcats turned two double plays in the game.
Southridge piled up 12 hits in the game. Nalley went 3-for-4 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Richardson, Hunefeld, and Ferguson each collected multiple hits for the Raiders. The Raiders worked the count all day, amassing five walks. Southridge
