Lady Wildcat softball comes back to life as tourney nears

Alaina Allyn struck out 10 batters as the right-handed pitcher led the Mt. Vernon Wildcats past the Princeton Tigers 11-0 on Thursday. Allyn allowed three hits and zero runs over six innings while walking three.

Mt. Vernon jumped out to the lead in the top of the second inning after A. Allyn singled, scoring two runs, Aubrey Grimes doubled, scoring one run, and Ali Lyke singled, scoring one run.

Charli Kinder took the loss for Princeton. The starter went six innings, surrendering 11 runs (nine earned) on 16 hits, striking out one and walking two.

Mt. Vernon accumulated 16 hits in the game. Grimes led the Wildcats with four hits in five at bats. A. Allyn, Lilly Watzlavik, Lyke, and Mallory Rhodes drove in two runs each for the Wildcats. Lindsey Allyn and Stella Hall each collected multiple hits for Mt. Vernon. The Wildcats were sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Grimes made the most plays with 10.

Leighton Burkett, Jaylynn McDaniel, and A Simmons each collected one hit for Princeton.

Mt. Vernon traveled to Pike Central on Saturday. Lindsey Allyn collected three hits in four at bats, as the Mt. Vernon Wildcats defeated Pike Central Chargers 13-0 on Saturday. She doubled in the sixth inning, singled in the second inning, and doubled in the fourth inning.

Mt. Vernon opened the scoring in the top of the second thanks to two singles. The Wildcats first got on the board when L. Allyn singled, scoring one run.

The Wildcats scored six runs on five hits in the top of the fourth inning. Janie Bohleber singled, scoring one run, Brylea Anderson hit a sacrifice fly, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, Ali Lyke singled, scoring one run, and Mallory Rhodes doubled, scoring a run.

Alaina Allyn earned the win for the Wildcats. The starter gave up one hit and no runs over four innings, striking out nine and walking none. Katelyn Onyett took the loss for the Pike Central Chargers. The righty went six innings, giving up 13 runs (five earned) on 14 hits, striking out one and walking two. Bohleber pitched two innings of scoreless ball for Mt. Vernon in relief. The left-handed pitcher gave up no hits, striking out four and walking one.

Mt. Vernon accumulated 14 hits in the game. L Allyn and Stella Hall each collected three hits for the Wildcats. Hall stole three bases.

Onyett went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead Pike Central.

Next up for Mt. Vernon is a game at Mt. Carmel on Tuesday night at 5 p.m.
