Lady softball Vikings win third in a row, defeating North 8-1

The North Posey softball team started off the week with a great win over Evansville North by the final score of 8-1. Then last Wednesday afternoon, the Lady Vikings hit a rut being blown out by Southridge 14-3 and on Friday lost another game to Jasper 4-2. For the season, North Posey has twelve wins and eleven losses.

North Posey 8, Evansville North 1: The North Posey softball team is playing well as of lately. Not only has the Lady Vikings won many games over a small stretch of the season, but they took down Evansville North on the road last Monday night by seven runs.

For the season, with the win, North Posey won their third game in a row and six of the last seven contests. The Lady Vikings in the season have twelve wins and nine losses. Evansville North has lost three straight contests to have their season record fall to seven wins and twelve losses.

This game was scoreless through two innings of play. Then North Posey scored four runs in the top of the third inning, one in the fifth, and three more runs in the sixth to control this matchup and move on for the win.

Avery Sanders threw a complete game of seven innings, giving up seven hits, one run, three walks, with five strikeouts on 93 pitches thrown. At the plate, Sanders went one for four with scoring a run.

As a team, North Posey had ten hits in the game on the eight runs scored. North had seven hits on their one run they brought to home plate. Paige Vaughn led the Lady Vikings to go three for four hitting with two doubles along with four runs batted in. Ayela Hoehn went two for four with a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored.

Lily Hester went one for three with three runs, a stolen base and a walk. Taryn Wilson went one for four with a stolen base. Makenna Hoehn went one for three with a walk. Madison Versteeg went one for four at the plate. Kayla Lindenschmidt and Savannah Lindenberg each walked and scored a run. Gwyn Beuligmann had one stolen base.

Southridge 14, North Posey 3: The Lady Raiders set the tone of this game in the top of the first inning scoring seven runs. North Posey made a go at it, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning by only trailing 7-3. During the top of the third inning, Southridge scored seven more runs to put the game out of reach and defeat the Vikings by eleven runs.

With the win, Southridge has now won seven straight games to improve their season record to eleven wins and six losses. North Posey’s season record fell to twelve wins and ten losses. This loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Lady Vikings.

North Posey, as a team, only had three hits in the game. Lily Hester, Makenna Hoehn, and Kayla Lindenschmidt each had one hit in the loss. Hester also scored a run, while Hoehn and Lindenschmidt each had one run batted in. Paige Vaughn walked and scored a run, Avery Sanders had one RBI and a walk, and Madison Versteeg was hit by a pitch. Avery Sanders took the loss in the pitcher’s circle.

Jasper 4, North Posey 2: On Friday evening, the Lady Vikings played their second consecutive home game. It was against the Jasper Wildcats. North Posey didn’t get blown out like their previous game to Southridge, but the Lady Vikings did lose a close contest 4-2.

This was the Lady Vikings second loss in a row dropping their season record to twelve wins and eleven losses. Jasper’s record improved to eleven wins and eight losses. The Lady Wildcats have now won three straight games.

Jasper scored one run in the top of the first inning. North Posey tied the game 1-1 at the end of the third. Jasper scored another run in the top of the fourth to lead 2-1. In the bottom of the fourth inning, North Posey scored a run to tie the game to 2-2. The Wildcats put up two runs in the top of the fifth inning to go on and win this matchup.

North Posey had five hits on the two runs scored in the game. Lily Hester went three for four with two triples, one run batted in, and a run scored. Madison Versteeg went one for three with a double. Kayla Lindenschmidt went one for two with a walk and a run. Ayela Hoehn walked one time.

Avery Sanders took the loss in the pitcher’s circle for North Posey. Sanders threw all seven innings, allowing seven hits, four runs, one walk, with five strikeouts on ninety-five pitches thrown. Sixty-six pitches went for a strike.
