Gary Lee Schneider, 78, of Canonsburg, Pa., passed away unexpectedly at Washington Hospital on April 4, 2026.
Born on December 12, 1947, in Mount Vernon, Ind., Gary was the son of the late Clifford and Dorcas (Isham) Schneider.
Gary was a 1965 graduate of Mount Vernon High School where he was a drum major in the marching band. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn., and his master’s degree from Ohio State University. Gary was a teacher at Lancaster High School and was also a professor at Ohio University – Lancaster Campus until his retirement.
On June 28, 1968, Gary married the love of his life, Donna (Winstead) and shared 57 beautiful years together. Gary’s eyes would light up every time Donna walked into the room, and he would immediately reach out to hold her hand. Their marriage exemplified a deep, enduring love and unwavering devotion to one another.
Gary enjoyed spending quality time with his son, Troy. He looked forward to the weekends when they would cook out on the grill and watch football, basketball, and other sports. Gary rooted for Ohio State and the Steelers but loved watching numerous teams with his son. Gary loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he was so proud of.
Gary was survived by his loving wife, Donna who recently passed away on April 24; his son, Troy Schneider (Antoinette) of Canonsburg, Pa.; grandsons: Maxwell and Benton Grutter of Gallatin, Tenn.; granddaughter: Haley Schneider Bracken (Luke) of Versailles, Ky.; Great grandchildren: Logan and Parker Bracken of Versailles, Ky.; nieces and nephews as well as extended family.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; daughter: Tracy Ann (Schneider) Grutter; sister and brother-in-law: Judy (Schneider) and Vernie Curtis; and sister Carolyn (Schneider) Fredericks.
Family and friends are welcome from 1 - 3 p.m., on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services, Ltd., 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, PA 15317, (724) 746-1000, Phillip L. Sollon, Supervisor. A Celebration of Love will follow at 3 p.m., at the funeral home.
A private burial will at Bellefontaine Cemetery in Mt. Vernon, Ind.
