Donald Lee Conklin

Donald Lee Conklin, 89, of Owensville, Ind., born February 19, 1937, to Alva and Edith (Tooley) Conklin in Gibson County, Ind., passed away peacefully Saturday, October 17, 2026 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

At a young age, Donald learned the value of hard work and family. He left school after the seventh grade to help his family with responsibilities of the family farm. His dedication to his family and strong work ethic were qualities that stayed with him throughout his life. He enlisted in the Army where he spent time in France and Germany. He was a devoted and active member of the Apostolic Bible Church in Stewartsville, Ind., for many years. His strong faith and love for the Lord were evident in the way he lived his life. He was deeply loved and adored by his church family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His kindness, warm spirit and genuine love for others left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

He was a mechanic working for Nix, Dulgar, Dauby and Sharrett Chevrolet where he retired and drove a school bus for the South Gibson School Corporation from 2001 to 2018. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, riding his side by side, going to church and sitting on his porch.

On December 7, 1957, Donald married Evelyn Jeanette Hassell. Together, they were blessed with three children. They shared 55 years of love, family and cherished memories before her passing on June 16, 2014. Donald found love again when he married Kay Clevenger, whom he continued to share life’s blessings and special moments. He was a family man and enjoyed his time with family.

Surviving are his wife: Kay (De Tar) Clevenger Conklin; children: Roger Conklin (Becca), Tammy Ramsey (Kevin) and Kevin Conklin (Carrie); six grandchildren: Shannon Bodrie (Eric), Aaron “Josh” Conklin (Jennifer), Tabetha Rudolph (John), Timothy Ramsey (Emilynne), Dakota Lewis (Blake) and Kaleb Conklin (Carly); 13 great grandchildren; sister: Betty Woods; step-children: Benny Clevenger (Donna), Brian Clevenger (Karen), Bart Clevenger, Barry Clevenger, Brent Clevenger (Ruby) and Jennifer Gaines (Jon); 9 step grandchildren: Amy Overton (Jon), Stephanie Clevenger (Mike Sparks), Travis Clevenger (Katie), Tara Smith (Mark), Chelsea Schmidt, Kayce Smith (Cameron), Keely Anderson, Zachary Gaines and Evan Gaines; 17 step great grandchildren with one on the way along with several great great step grandchildren..

Preceding him in death were his parents; first wife: Evelyn Jeanette (Hassell) Conklin; great grandson: Owen Morris Conklin; siblings: Fern McClellan, Faye Holland, Bob Conklin, J.W. Conklin, Jean Conklin, Joy Reach and baby Margaret Conklin.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Monday, October 26, 2026 at the Werry Funeral Home in Poseyville, Ind., with burial to follow in Maumee Cemetery near Johnson, Ind.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time, Monday, October 26, 2026 at the funeral home.
