Cletus “Pete” Lindberg Turner, 97, of Poseyville, Ind., born July 23, 1928, to John Sandford and Mayme Cleo (Hutchcraft) Turner in Barrington, Ill., passed away, Friday, October 31, 2025 at Heart to Heart Hospice in Evansville, Ind.
Pete played basketball at Poseyville High School and was asked to coach the team due to a lack of available males during WWII. Pete was the class president of Poseyville High School Class of 1945. Pete proudly served in the Korean War and was an Arbitrator for United Papers International Union overseeing 26 factories. Pete was a gifted rhythm guitarist who was friends with many notable musicians in his lifetime. He and his longtime companion Carol Ann TenBarge made multiple trips to the Grand Ole Opry. Pete was friends with guitarist Leon Rhodes who would always invite them to sit backstage during the performances.
Surviving are his niece: Vicki Thiem (Bob) of Wadesville, Ind.; nephews: Roger Butler (Judy) of Evansville, Ind., Michael Butler (Julie) of Wadesville, Ind., Kerry Butler (Kim) of Marion, Ill., and Richard Butler (Debbie) of Evansville, Ind.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his sister: Gena Maxine Butler. Also preceding him in death was his longtime companion of over 30 years: Carol Ann TenBarge and her son-in-law: James Droege. Carol’s surviving children are Carol Jo Droege of Evansville, Ind., Joseph TenBarge of Austin, Texas and Donald and Olivia TenBarge of Evansville, Ind.
Funeral services were 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at the Werry Funeral Home in Poseyville, Ind., burial followed in the Poseyville Cemetery in Poseyville, Ind.
Visitation was held 10 a.m. until service time, Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at the funeral home.
