Wanda Jane Schelhorn, 86, of Mount Vernon, passed away on January 24, 2026, at Deaconess Hospital. Jane was born in Stewartsville on July 13, 1939, the daughter of Malcolm and Mary (Bambei) Mounts.
Jane was a 1957 graduate of New Harmony High School. She married the love of her life, Bob Schelhorn, and together they started their family. They shared 60 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2022. Jane was a devoted member of Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church in New Harmony.
She enjoyed reading and working puzzles, as well as watching the Cardinals or Reds play baseball on television. Above all, Jane was a loving mother and grandmother who cherished time spent with her family. She was a constant presence in their lives, and they all knew she was someone they could always count on.
Jane is survived by her children, Carol (Dan) Stratton, Amy Schelhorn, Mary (Chuck) Ries, Greg (Tammy) Schelhorn, and John Eric Schelhorn; grandchildren, Tyler Schmitt, Taylor (Matt) Hale, Kevin (Jayden) Greb, MacKenzie (Kurtis) Oldiges, Elizabeth Ries, Abbey Ries, and Rylan Ries; great-grandchildren, Kasen Schelhorn, Nathaniel and Hudson Oldiges, Beyah Greb, and Oliver Hale; and her sister, Alice Baker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob Schelhorn; and her grandson, Hunter Stratton.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church in New Harmony at 11 a.m. with visitation from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
