Lola Mae Watzlavik, 89, of Evansville, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 30, 2026, at the West River Health Campus.
Lola was born on August 8, 1936, in Hull, Texas to the late David Charles and Lila Mae (Junkins) West.
Lola’s true love was her husband of 40 years, Victor, who died in 1996. She was also a dedicated mother, grandmother and friend. When Lola was 34 years old with five young children, she pursued and obtained her RN degree, with the help and support of her husband. She was a compassionate labor and delivery nurse at Welborn Baptist Hospital. Lola was a great cook. Her specialties were chicken and dumplings, gumbo and coconut cream pie. She loved gardening and often had beautiful flowers in bloom both inside and out of her home. Lola’s legacy was her ability to design and hand sew beautiful quilts. She was also known for her infectious laugh, her love of music, dancing and her ability to inspire others to overcome obstacles.
Lola leaves behind her family, including her children Cynthia Watzlavik (Chris), Judy Butler (Roger), Paul Watzlavik (Holly). Her legacy continues through eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Lola was preceded in death by her husband, Victor, a son, Victor Jr. and his wife, Annette; a daughter, Belinda; three sisters and two brothers.
There was a Mass of Christian Burial held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Saint Matthew Catholic Church, 421 Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon, IN 47620.
Friends visited with the family from 10:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at Saint Matthew Catholic Church.
