Vikings drop season track opener to Gibson Southern

The North Posey girls’ track and field team started their 2026 campaign last Tuesday night at Gibson Southern High School in a dual competition against the Lady Titans. Gibson Southern has been a very good team year-in and year-out. North Posey struggled staying up with Gibson Southern losing 93-20.

North Posey won a few races and one field event at this meet. Senior Elle Jo Johnson won the 100-meter dash and the long jump. Freshman Rowen Englebright dominated the 1600-meter run beating the runner-up by 28 seconds

Also placed for North Posey was Avery Little finishing second in the high jump along with Paxtyn Gibbs placing third in the shot put and third in the discus throws.

During the first North Posey boys’ track team’s meet of the season last Tuesday night, it was a tough dual competition for the Vikings losing by the score of 77-33.

There were some good individual performances by North Posey in this meet. Senior Jackson Mills won the 100-meter dash and the long jump contests. Mills also placed third in the 200-meter dash.

The North Posey 4 x 100-meter relay and 4x 400-meter relay teams won their races. Other places for North Posey were Seth Gentil placing second in the 400-meter dash, Ethan Seibert finished second in the 1600-meter run, and Hank Lilly came in second place in the long jump.

Finishing in third place of their races or field events were Titus Matthews in the 400-meter dash, Ryan Englebright in the 1600-meter run, and Bentley Deakins in the high jump.
