Lady Wildcat softball team undefeated after three games

The Mount Vernon Lady Wildcat softball team remained undefeated for the first two weeks of this year’s season with a 24-0 victory this week over Evansville Bosse. The Wildcats now stand 3-0 headed into Tuesday’s game at Evansville. The results of that contest were not available at press time.

Alaina Allyn collected four hits in four at bats, as she singled and doubled, both in the first inning and then singled in the second and doubled in the third.

Janie Bohleber struck out 10 batters on the day. The pitcher also surrendered one hit and zero runs over five innings while walking two.

The Wildcats got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Aubrey Grimes doubled to left field, and Brylea Anderson tripled to center field, each scoring a run.

The Wildcats scored 14 runs on 11 hits in the bottom of the second inning. An error scored one run, Bohleber doubled, scoring one run, Stella Hall tripled, scoring one run, Allyn singled, scoring one run, Grimes singled, scoring one run, Anderson singled, scoring one run, Lilly Watzlavik tripled, scoring two runs, Bohleber singled, scoring one run, Hall doubled, scoring one run, Lacey Allyn doubled, scoring two runs, Allyn doubled, scoring one more run, and Grimes singled, scoring another run.

The Wildcats scored seven runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning. Watzlavik singled, scoring one run. Bosse pitcher MacKenzie Carrier got Bohleber on a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, Hall singled, scoring one run, and Allyn singled again, scoring two more runs. Grimes then singled, scoring one run, and a steal of home scored one run.

Carrier took the loss for Bosse Bulldogs. The hurler went two-and-a-third innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on five hits, striking out none and walking five. Faith Boze started in the circle for Bulldogs. The starter gave up 14 hits and 16 runs (four earned) over one-and-two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking one.

The Lady Wildcats amassed 19 hits in the game. Allyn and Grimes were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected four hits while hitting back-to-back. Grimes drove the middle of the line-up, leading Mount Vernon with four runs batted in. The catcher went 4-for-4 on the day. Bohleber, Watzlavik, Hall, and Anderson each collected multiple hits for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats alsoshowed a strong eye at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Jersie Reynolds and Mallory Rhodes led the team with two walks each. Reynolds, Bohleber, and Hall each stole multiple bases for the Wildcats. Mount Vernon also stole 12 bases in the game. The Wildcats were also sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Grimes had the most chances in the field with 12.

Marioxis Peraza Velasquez went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead the Bulldogs in hits.
