The North Posey boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams completed their season on Sunday, October 26, with an awards banquet held at North Posey High School. Attending this event there were athletes, parents and loyal Viking fans to recognize this team for their accomplishments. There was a meal for those who attended the banquet prior to the announcement of the award winners.
North Posey is coached by Scott Bosecker completing his third season at the helm. Bosecker was the perfect person to coach the Viking runners with his experience in many long-distance races including the Boston Marathon.
This season, the Lady Vikings cross-country team had five runners and enough to compete for the team scoring at races. As for the boys, this group of Vikings had four runners out for the season and could not compete for team scoring.
Coach Bosecker went over the season with a recap of the Viking runners’ accomplishments and results. Then coach Bosecker announced the award winners for this season’s cross-country teams.
Winning the boys “Most Valuable Performer” went to junior Ethan Seibert. Over the season, Seibert led the Vikings boys’ team in every race. The winner of the girls’ “Most Valuable Performer” went presented to freshman Rowen Englebright. This season went great for Englebright winning some races in the regular season along with the highlight of finishing second overall in the sectional.
Awarded the boys’ “Viking Spirit” award went to sophomore Ryan Englebright. For the girls’ the “Viking Spirit” award was given to senior Katelyn Seibert. The Viking Spirit award was presented to both these members for their leadership, setting an example, and being a positive influence for teammates.
The varsity letter award winners for the girls’ team were presented to seniors Makenah Delph and Katelyn Seibert. Delph had a decorated career in cross-country for North Posey. In her first three seasons, she qualified for the state regional championship in her freshman and sophomore seasons as a team. Then in her junior year, Delph qualified for the regional championship individually. Seibert was also a member of the Viking teams that qualified for the regional championship during her freshman and sophomore seasons.
For the girls, being awarded a varsity letter were sophomores Braelyn Barrett and Abigail Templeton. Also receiving a varsity letter was freshman Rowen Englebright. All three of these runners will return next season and expect bigger results from this group.
Receiving varsity letters for the boys’ team were junior Ethan Seibert, along with sophomores Ryan Englebright, Titus Matthews, and Chase Tucker. There were no freshman or seniors on this year’s boys’ cross-country team.
