Several county wrestlers qualify for ISWA Frosh-Soph State Finals

The wrestling season was not quite over for some of the local students from the Posey County area. Last Sunday, sixteen wrestlers from Mount Vernon and five from North Posey competed in the Indiana State Wrestling Association Freshman-Sophomore South Qualifier.
Hosting the girls meet was at Mount Vernon High School and the boys’ contest was held at Evansville Mater Dei High School. To qualify for this event, you cannot be a state qualifier in the Indiana High School Athletic Association tournament.
Wrestlers from Posey County did well last weekend with six from Mount Vernon and four from North Posey qualifying for the ISWA State Championship this weekend at Southport High School located at 971 East Banta Road, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227. To qualify for the Freshman-Sophomore state championship, you had to place in the top five of your weight class.
Qualifying for the Freshman-Sophomore state championship from Mount Vernon were Monroe Harris finishing fifth in the 157-pound weight class. For the girls contest from Mount Vernon was Paislee Hoehn winning the 100-105.6-pound weight class, Baylee Stallings placed fourth in the 107.1-112.3-pound weight class, Mariyah Buchanan (Second Place) and Justice Stillwagoner (Third Place) each in the 127.7-134-pound weight class and Emma-Jad Brenner placing third in the 134.2-138.2-pound weight class.
For North Posey, Adam Gray won the 150-pound weight class. Kaylie Will placed second in the 118.7-127.7-pound weight class, Desirae Reese finished third in the 107.1-112.3-pound weight class, and Alison Greene placed fifth in the 127.7-134-pound weight class.
Also competing in the wrestling South Qualifier but did not place from North Posey was Caden Wright in the 190-pound weight class. The following wrestlers from Mount Vernon competed at this meet were Lucas Wilson (100), Zachary Wilson (113), Jackson Meinschein (126), Bryson West (132), Hunter Anslinger (138), Wade York (144), Micky Schaefer (157), Ira Muller (175), Ryan Schaefer (190), and Nick Lueder (285).
Paislee Hoehn (Mount Vernon) won the 100-105.6-pound weight class in a round robin competition. In her first match, Hoehn defeated Paisley McIntire (Evansville Reitz) by fall (3:16). During Hoehn’s second match, she defeated Marcella Valeciano (Southridge) by major decision (18-10). Hoehn defeated Lola Bailey (Evansville North) by fall (1:24). For her final match, Hoehn beat Audrina Alvey (Evansville Central) by fall (0:35).
Adam Gray (North Posey) won the 150-pound weight class. During the opening round, Gray defeated Nikolas Presley (Hamilton Southeastern) by fall (0:45). In the second round, Gray beat Tanner Nuetzman (Artesian WC) by major decision (16-5). For the quarterfinals, Gray won over Obi Mawasi (Terre Haute North) by fall (1:57). Gray won his semifinal match against Braeden Myers (Monrovia) by decision (4-3). In the championship match, Gray defeated Reed Johnson (Brownsburg) by fall (0:16).
Zionsville won as a team with a score of 34 points. Columbus North finished second with 31.5 points, Intense Wrestling Club in third place with 24.5 points, Vincennes Lincoln in fourth place with 10 points, and Evansville North in fifth place with 8.5 points.
