Vikings take second game in a row with Mt. Carmel win

By Chris Morlan

The North Posey Vikings were back on their home court last Tuesday for a game against a team from out of state with the Mount Carmel Golden Aces. Over the last six to seven seasons, these two schools have played a contest against each other.

Prior to this matchup, North Posey was looking to build their first winning streak of the season. North Posey never trailed in the game against Mount Carmel and went on to win by the final score of 47-39.

There were a few scary moments throughout this contest that Mount Carmel had a chance to control the game. When that happened, North Posey built their advantage up eight or nine points. With the win, North Posey has won two straight games and improved their season record to five wins and twelve losses.

North Posey started off on fire in this matchup going up 9-0. The Vikings ended the first quarter leading by the score of 11-6. Midway through the second quarter, North Posey built their biggest lead of the game at 21-11. Mount Carmel refused to backdown and cut the deficit down to six at the halftime break (23-17).

The Golden Aces started off in the third quarter, going on an 8-2 scoring run to tie the game at 25-25. After that tie in the game, North Posey took control of the remainder of this matchup. In the fourth quarter, Mount Carmel guard Shain Meador got called for a double dribble. The Golden Aces coach got upset and one of the officials gave the coach a technical foul with 4:40 left in the fourth quarter. North Posey never lost the lead and won this matchup by eight points.

For the season, this was the Vikings first win of the year when they scored under 50 points in a game. On the campaign, when North Posey scores 50 or more points in a contest, they are 4-0. When the Vikings score under 50 points in a game, they have a 1-12 record.

Leading the Vikings in scoring was Brayden Compton with a game-high 16 points. Trey Buecher finished with nine points, while Tyler Arnold and Brody Fehn each scored six points in the win.
