Rosalee Catherine (Schmitt) Scheller, age 98, of Poseyville, Ind., passed away at 2 a.m. on February 12, 2026, at her home. Rosalee was born on December 31, 1927, at home in Posey County, where she resided until her death. She attended Saint Francis Catholic School and Cynthiana High School. She married the love of her life, Arthur Scheller, Jr., on August 10, 1948. In addition to raising a large family, she also assisted with the work around their farm. Rosalee was a member of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the church choir for over 80 years. She also was a member of the Ladies Club, serving as president for several years, Saint Vincent de Paul, and Saint Ann’s Auxiliary. She also took pride being the church Sacristan for many years and was awarded the Brute Award in 2013.
Rosalee is survived by her daughters: Kathleen (Jon) Black, Jacqueline (Stephen) Bender, Patricia (Kenneth) Will, Joyce (John) Heard, Lois (William) Martin; sons: Patrick (Carolyn) Scheller, Thomas (Mary Jane) Scheller and James (Lisa) Scheller; 26 grandchildren: Jason (Cathy) Black, Adam Black, Sarah (Kenneth) Hisch, Erik (Jayme) Bender, Carolyn (Karl) O’Reilly, Roger (Courtney) Bender, Jeffrey (Lacy) Bender, Carrie (Eric) Rasche, Joseph (Amber) Scheller, Jonathan (McKenzie) Scheller, Christopher (Natalie) Will, Ryan Will, Kimberly (Jeremiah) Galey, Jaclyn (Christopher) Roman, Jennifer Heard, Joanna (Derek) Smith, Jay (Tabitha) Heard, Megan (Andrew) Wathen, Matthew Martin, Brooke (Michael) Travers, Keith (Alison) Scheller, Nicholas (Allison) Scheller, Grant, Christine, Austin and Vincent Scheller, and 41 great grandchildren: Andrew, Brayden, Lauren and Connor Black, Alayna Hisch, Kaylee, Kyleigh, Kade, Cassie, Jonah, Eli, Cora and Avery Bender, Lily and Myra O’Reilly, Mackenzie and Molly George, Berkley Will, Zachary and Catherine Roman, Ethan, Andrew and Caroline Smith, Kylan, Katelyn, Kinley and Khloe Wathen, Mila Martin, Olivia and Eleanor Rasche, Taylor, Cameron, Madelyn, Nolan, Kendall, Parker and Hudson Scheller, Lexi, Ava and Nora Travers, Baby Hadley Parks Heard on the way; sisters-in-law: Mary Schmitt, Mary Ann Albano, Elizabeth Scheller and Martha Scheller.
Rosalee was preceded in death by her husband: Arthur Scheller Jr.; children: Joseph and Mary Scheller; grandchildren: Melanie Will, Spencer Scheller and Michael Black; her parents: Adam and Otilia (Elpers) Schmitt and siblings: Anthony, Ivan and Frederick Schmitt and Mary Jane Tenbarge.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Poseyville, with burial in the church cemetery and the Father Ed Schnur officiating.
Visitation was held Monday, February 16, 2026, at Saint Francis School Cafeteria from 3 until 7 p.m.

A special thank you to the Father Ed Schnur and the Deacon Mark McDonald for the spiritual blessings and visits bestowed on Mom. Also, thanks to the staff from Gentiva Hospice for the all the wonderful care given to Mom during her last days.
