Lady Viking tennis comes up short against Wood Memorial

The North Posey girls’ tennis team started off the week last Monday losing a close matchup to Wood Memorial 3-2. On Tuesday, the Lady Vikings swept Mount Vernon 5-0 and on Wednesday afternoon, beat Boonville 4-1 to win their second straight contest. For the season, North Posey improved their record to eight wins and nine losses.

Wood Memorial 3, North Posey 2: The North Posey girls’ tennis team continues to struggle as of lately. Last Monday afternoon, the Lady Vikings played at home against the Wood Memorial Lady Trojans. Prior to this matchup, North Posey lost four straight contests.

This Wood Memorial match was no better with North Posey losing 3-2 in another close competition. For the season, North Posey has won six matches and lost nine. That was North Posey’s fifth straight loss. In the Pocket Athletic Conference, the Lady Vikings have a 4-6 record.

Ayva Powers of Wood Memorial defeated Jaz Ward of North Posey in the One Singles match by two sets 6-2 and 6-1. In the Two Singles match, Mallory Bailey of Wood Memorial beat Braelyn Barrett of North Posey by three sets 3-6, 6-2, and 6-6(7-3). Kylee Heath of North Posey won the Three Singles match over Kinley Stoffel of Wood Memorial by two sets 6-3 and 6-4.

During doubles competition, Elle Schlottman/Adalynn Luebke of Wood Memorial won the One Doubles match against Haven Barton/Cassie Bender-Staples of North Posey by two sets 6-1 and 7-5. Peyton Wassmer/Mady Nightingale of North Posey defeated Grace Shoultz/Ava Martin of Wood Memorial by two sets 6-4 and 6-4.

North Posey 5, Mount Vernon 0: Last Tuesday afternoon, the North Posey girls’ tennis team snapped a five-game losing streak by sweeping Mount Vernon in all five matches. The Lady Vikings improved their season record to seven wins and nine losses. In the PAC, North Posey is 5-6.

In the One Singles match, Jaz Ward of North Posey defeated Lilly Chapman of Mount Vernon by two sets 6-4 and 6-4. Braelyn Barrett of North Posey won the Two Singles contest over Addison Ditmer of Mount Vernon by two sets 6-1 and 6-1. For the Three Singles competition, Kylee Heath of North Posey beat Joslyn David of Mount Vernon by two sets 6-2 and 6-2.

Haven Barton/Cassie Bender-Staples of North Posey won the One Doubles match over Isabella Benthall/Kendall Voelker of Mount Vernon by three sets 6-2, 4-6, and 7-5. During the Two Doubles contest, Mady Nightingale/Peyton Wassmer of North Posey defeated Sarah Seifert/Megan Osborne of Mount Vernon by three sets 7-5, 5-7, and 6-3.

The Lady Viking junior varsity point winners in singles play were Addi Doubler and Emily Schmitt. In doubles matches, the teams of Anna Luigs/Raela Cullum and Emalyn Raber/Claire Will.

North Posey 4, Boonville 1: The Lady Vikings played at home last Wednesday afternoon against the Boonville Pioneers in a conference contest. North Posey was looking to build a winning streak after Mount Vernon victory. That is exactly what North Posey did by defeating Boonville in four of the five matches. The Lady Vikings have won two straight contest to improve their season record to eight wins and nine losses. In the PAC, North Posey has a 6-6 record.

In the One Singles match, Lydia Aldrige of Boonville defeated Jaz Ward of North Posey by two sets 6-0 and 6-2. Braelyn Barrett of North Posey beat Ava Brown of Boonville in the Two Singles match by two sets 7-5 and 6-2. Kylee Heath of North Posey won the Three Singles contest over Haddie Rohrscheib of Boonville by two sets 6-1 and 6-4.

During the double’s competition, Haven Barton/Peyton Wassmer of North Posey won the One Doubles match against Jaelin Clem/Ava Scales of Boonville by three sets 4-6, 6-2, and 6-0. In the Two Doubles match, Raela Cullum/Anna Luigs of North Posey beat Madie Strahle/Morgan Poellein of Boonville by two sets 7-5 and 6-2. Junior varsity point winners were Addi Doubler in singles play, along with the doubles team of Emmy Olander/Molly George.
