Special to the News

On April 26, 2026, at approximately 5:07 p.m., deputies were notified of an accident with unknown injuries on State Road 66, East of Eastlake Drive in Posey County. Deputies were later notified that the wreck had occurred near 9200 State Road 66. Dispatch advised that a truck had flipped over but were unable to advise if there were any injuries.

Upon arrival, deputies observed a black 2024 Black Dodge Ram Rebel upside down in the field to the south of State Road 66 with front end damage. Deputies also observed a silver Toyota Rav4 on the South side of the roadway facing westbound with heavy front-end damage.

Deputies were also advised that the driver of the Toyota Rav4 later identified as 41-year-old Mandy Stebbins of Evansville, Ind., was in the process of being extricated from the vehicle by fire personnel, and her 11-year-old son was complaining of severe pain in his right arm.

The driver of the black dodge Ram 1500, later identified as 51-year-old Jeffrey Alvey of Evansville, was out of his vehicle and refused any medical services.

Alvey told officers he was travelling westbound on State Road 66 in the Dodge Ram and didn’t remember how the crash happened. Investigation at the scene suggests that Alvey’s vehicle crossed left of the center line and struck the Toyota Rav4. A preliminary breath test administered to Alvey showed a .12 percent BAC.

Alvey was transported to a local hospital for further investigation by Posey County Deputies. He then was arrested for operating while intoxicated and transported to the Posey County Jail. Alvey has since bonded out of jail. The crash is still under investigation.

Alvery was charged with Operating while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury (Level 5 felony); Operating while intoxicated endangering a person (Class A misdemeanor); and Operating while intoxicated (a Class C misdemeanor).
