Wildcats’ McCarty, Siddons advance to wrestling finals

The Mount Vernon Lady Wildcats competed in the Indiana High School Athletic Association wrestling regional round of the state tournament last Saturday at Bloomington South High School. This is the final stop before the state finals for girls wrestling.
You must win your first two matches in the regionals to qualify for the state finals. Only four wrestlers per weight class will advance to the state finals which will be on Friday, January 16 in Indianapolis at the Corteva Coliseum, Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center.
Whiteland High School won the team scores with a dominating 203 points. Franklin Community was second with 116 points, followed by Mooresville in third place with 103 points, Bloomington South in fourth place with 100.5 points, Columbus East in fifth place with 86 points, and Seymour in sixth place with 69 points.
North Posey finished with most points from all the Southwestern Indiana area in seventh place with 66.5 points. Other area schools scoring points for their teams were Southridge in eighth place with 65 points, Mount Vernon in eleventh with 40.5 points, Tecumseh in sixteenth with 24 points, North Knox in twenty-second with 19 points, and Jasper in twenty-ninth with seven points. Evansville Central, Evansville Reitz, Evansville Bosse, Evansville North, and Heritage Hills each placed thirtieth with four points.
Mount Vernon sent eight wrestlers to the IHSAA Regionals last weekend and started off well. Two of the eight Wildcat wrestlers will compete on Friday’s state finals. Qualifying for the state finals were Madalyn McCarty in the 140-pound weight class and Ambryn Siddons in the 145-pound weight class.
Madalyn McCarty (34-2) placed third in the 140-pound weight class. In the opening round, McCarty beat Eden Norton (Edgewood) by technical fall (17-1). For the quarterfinals, McCarty beat Isabella Zuckschwerdt (Madison) by major decision (10-2). During the semifinals, McCarty lost against Jazlinn Diaz-Avalos (Franklin) by decision (10-3). McCarty won the third-place contest over Sophia Waggoner (Avon) by decision (4-1).
Ambryn Siddons (27-8) finished fourth in the 145-pound weight class. Siddons won her opening round match against Hunter Serna (North Harrison) by fall (0:56). In the quarterfinals, Siddons beat Danica Geyer (Brebeuf Jesuit) by fall (3:16). For the semifinals, Siddons lost against Ava Allen (Silver Creek) by fall (0:26). Siddons lost the third-place match against Olivia Knabel (North Knox) by fall (3:48).
Paislee Hoehn (27-8) did not place in the 100-pound weight class. Hoehn won her opening round match against Lilly Elliott (South Putnam) by fall (0:48). In the quarterfinals, Hoehn lost to Addalyn Sisson (Floyd Central) by technical fall (16-0).
Micah Lamberson-Angle (20-11) did not place in the 120-pound weight class. Lamberson-Angle won her opening round match over Makenzie Braid (Floyd Central) by a close decision (1-0). In the quarterfinals, Lamberson-Angle lost to Khloe Weber (Mooresville) by fall (1:27).
Jaylan York (27-8) did not place in the 125-pound weight class. York won her opening round match against Mattingly Hutchison (Mooresville) by fall (1:38). In the quarterfinals, York lost against Klaire Redwine (Switzerland County) by fall (2:44).
Justice Stillwagoner (24-10) did not place in the 130-pound weight class. Stillwagoner lost her opening round match against Leah Luke (South Dearborn) by fall in the second round (3:44). For the season, Stillwagoner finished with twenty-four wins and ten losses.
Natalie Kuhn (28-7) did not place in the 155-pound weight class. Kuhn lost her opening round match against Isabel Wakefield (Columbus East) by decision (7-3). For the season, Kuhn finished with twenty-eight wins and seven losses.
Amelia Oliver (29-7) did not place in the 190-pound weight class. Oliver lost her opening round contest against Yarely Solis (Jeffersonville) by fall (2:46). For the season, Oliver finished with twenty-nine wins and seven losses.
The Mount Vernon Lady Wildcat wrestling team did very well on Friday, January 2 in the opening round of the Indiana High School Athletic Association girls’ wrestling sectional. This sectional was hosted by Mount Vernon High School. There were sixteen schools competing at this event.
To qualify for the regional round, you must finish in the top four places of your weight class. Eight wrestlers from Mount Vernon qualified for the regional round of the state tournament.
The following wrestlers qualified for this Saturday’s regional from Mount Vernon along with their weight class are Paislee Hoehn (100), Micah Lamberson-Angle (120), Jaylan York (125), Justice Stillwagoner (130), Madalyn McCarty (140), Ambryn Siddons (145), Natalie Kuhn (155), and Amelia Oliver (190).
These eight wrestlers will compete on Saturday, January 10 in the IHSAA Regional at Bloomington South High School beginning at 10 a.m. ET/9 a.m. CT. Not only did Mount Vernon send eight wrestlers to the regionals. The Lady Wildcats came in second place in the team scores with 185.5 points.
Team scores went with Southridge, winning with a high score of 202 points. Mount Vernon placed second with 185.5 points. North Posey was third with 183 points, followed by Owen Valley in fourth place with 117.5 points, Jasper in fifth place with 95 points, Castle in sixth place with 60 points, Evansville Reitz and North Knox tied for seventh place with 55 points, and Evansville Central in ninth place with 48 points.
Placing tenth was Tecumseh, Evansville Bosse, and Sullivan each scoring 44 points, Pike Central in thirteenth place with 42.5 points, Boonville in fourteenth place with 29 points, Heritage Hills in fifteenth place with 28 points, and Evansville North in sixteenth place with 21 points.
To qualify for the state finals on Saturday, you must place in the top four spots of your weight class. The state finals be January 16, at Corteva Coliseum on the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis.
Paislee Hoehn (26-7) placed second in the 100-pound weight class. Hoehn won her opening round match by forfeit. In the quarterfinals, Hoehn also won that match by forfeit. For the semifinals, Hoehn defeated Paisley McIntire (Evansville Reitz) by technical fall (17-0). During the championship match, Kendra Wormald (North Posey) beat Hoehn by fall (5:51).
Baylee Stallings (21-11) placed fifth in the 105-pound weight class. In the quarterfinals, Stallings won by forfeit. During the semifinals, Marcella Valenciano (Southridge) defeated Stallings by fall (2:19). Lily Penner (Evansville Reitz) beat Stallings by decision (9-3). For the fifth-place match, Stallings won by forfeit.
Aidyn Breeze (17-18) finished sixth in the 110-pound weight class. During the opening round, Breeze won by forfeit. In the quarterfinals, Myah Recker (Pike Central) defeated Breeze by fall (3:08). In the consolation sub-semifinals, Breeze won by forfeit. For the consolation semifinals, Milliana Christie (Evansville Bosse) beat Breeze by fall (1:37). Breeze lost the fifth-place match against Myah Recker (Pike Central) by fall (1:44).
Micah Lamberson-Angle (19-10) placed third in the 120-pound weight class. Lamberson-Angle over Lydia Justus (North Posey) by medical forfeit. In the quarterfinals, Lamberson-Angle defeated Lucy Robertson (Evansville North) by fall (2:42). Braylee Racicot (Jasper) beat Lamberson-Angle in the semifinals by fall (0:59). For the consolation semifinals, Lamberson-Angle defeated Cadence Cupp (Castle) by fall (3:14). Lamberson-Angle won the third-place match over Isabella Coulter (Evansville Central) by fall (3:46).
Jaylan York (26-7) placed third in the 125-pound weight class. York won her opening round match over Delaney Cox (Heritage Hills) by decision (13-10). For the quarterfinals, York defeated Olivia Taylor (Pike Central) by fall (1:34). Gracie Brosmer (Jasper) defeated York by decision (8-6) in the semifinal round. In the consolation semifinals, York beat Eva Polley (Southridge) by fall (1:00). York won the third-place match over Kiyonna Kemp (Evansville Central) by fall (1:14).
Justice Stillwagoner (24-9) placed third in the 130-pound weight class. Stillwagoner won her opening round match by forfeit. For the quarterfinals, Stillwagoner beat Daegen Knepp (Pike Central) by fall (2:13). Kori Hunefeld (Southridge) beat Stillwagoner in the semifinals by fall (1:58). In the consolation semifinals, Stillwagoner beat Navaeh Hernandez (Castle) by fall (2:52). During the third-place match, Stillwagoner beat Bree Mauck (North Posey) by major decision (15-5).
Mariyah Buchanan (21-10) placed fifth in the 135-pound weight class. Buchanan received a bye in the opening round. In the quarterfinals, Buchanan beat Magdalen Thompson (Pike Central) by fall (0:40). Aaliyah White (Owen Valley) defeated Buchanan by fall (3:51) in the semifinals. For the consolation semifinals, Alison Greene (North Posey) beat Buchanan by fall (4:24). In the fifth-place match, Buchanan defeated Magdalen Thompson (Pike Central) by major decision (20-7).
Madalyn McCarty (31-1) won the 140-pound weight class. In the opening round, McCarty won the match by forfeit. For the quarterfinals, McCarty won by forfeit. During the semifinals, McCarty beat Rian Corum (Tecumseh) by fall (0:47). McCarty won the championship match over Madison Secoy (North Knox) by decision (9-8).
Ambryn Siddons (25-6) won the 145-pound weight class. In the opening round, Siddons won the match by forfeit. Siddons won the quarterfinals contest over Abby Crowe (Boonville) by fall (1:36). For the semifinals, Siddons beat Isabella Palma (Jasper) by fall (1:37). During the championship match, Siddons defeated Olivia Knabel (North Knox) by fall (3:16).
Natalie Kuhn (28-6) finished second in the 155-pound weight class. Kuhn received a bye to start the tournament. In the quarterfinals, Kuhn won by forfeit. For the semifinals, Abigail Flamion (Southridge) defeated Kuhn by fall (2:36). Kaleigh Collazo (Castle) beat Kuhn in the championship match by fall (5:17).
Amelia Oliver (29-6) placed third in the 190-pound weight class. Oliver won her opening round match by forfeit. In the quarterfinals, Oliver defeated Madelynn Jo Pitts (Tecumseh) by fall (2:42). For the semifinals, Keegan LaRoche (Southridge) beat Oliver by decision (3-1). During the consolation semifinals, Oliver defeated Taylin Richards (North Knox) by fall (2:26). Oliver won the third-place contest against Madelynn Jo Pitts (Tecumseh) by decision (7-4).
