Lady Vikings swim team finishes fifth at Pioneer Invite

The North Posey girls’ swim team was back in action on Saturday, January 3 at the Pioneer Sprint Invitational. There were seven different schools competing at this event. This was the Lady Vikings first swim meet of the 2026 calendar year.
Evansville Reitz won the team score with 275 points. Corydon Central finished second with 218 points, followed by Evansville North in third place with 211 points, Boonville in fourth place with 184 points, North Posey in fifth place with 119 points, Evansville Christian in sixth place with 56 points, and South Knox in seventh place with 24 points.
Individually, Lady Viking senior Sophia Stone won the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:04.60. Stone also finished second in the 50-yard fly with a time of 28.03 seconds. Peyton Wassmer finished fifth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:09.68. Wassmer also placed ninth in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:21.69.
Ellason Martin placed sixth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:38.83. Martin also finished eighth in the 50-yard fly with a time of 39.54 seconds. Izzy Walden placed eighth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:40.89. Brylie Schmitt finished twelfth in the 50-yard freestyle (36.92 seconds) and the 100-yard freestyle (1:24.31).
North Posey competed in two relay races at this event. The Lady Vikings placed second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with the team of Sophia Stone, Peyton Wassmer, Ellason Martin, and Izzy Walden with a time of 2:03.00. In the 200-yard medley relay, North Posey finished fourth with the team of Walden, Stone, Wassmer, and Martin in a time of 2:19.13.
