Vikings defeat Commodores 5-0, off to sectional finale

The North Posey baseball team played their first game of the postseason last Friday evening from Rockport in a game against the Perry Central Commodores. North Posey wasted no time taking control of this game and cruising to a 5-0 win over Perry Central.

With the win, this advanced North Posey to the sectional championship game against the Evansville Mater Dei Wildcats who beat Forest Park in their semi-final game. This was the second time North Posey has played Perry Central this season. In their first meeting on April 11, the Vikings defeated the Commodores 2-0.

During both matchups, North Posey sophomore Brennon Reich pitched and held Perry Central in both outings without a run through 14 innings on the bump. Reich only allowed three hits last Friday night with no runs, no walks and five strikeouts on 91 pitches for the victory.

Ben Freeman helped North Posey gain the lead at the top of the first inning hitting a single that scored Remi Johnson from third base to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead. The top of the second inning started with Tyce Toker, Davin Sullivan, and Remi Johnson all walking.

The bases were loaded and then Brennon Reich walked, allowing Toker to score to make the game 2-0. Grant Cullman stepped to the plate driving in two runs off a fly ball that allowed Sullivan and Johnson to score and give North Posey a 4-0 advantage.

In the top of the fifth inning, Zeke Roosevelt had three balls, two strikes counted on him. Then Roosevelt smacked a home run on a line drive over the left field fence to extend North Posey’s lead up to 5-0, which went on to be the final score.

For the game, North Posey was held to five hits as a team. Remi Johnson went two for three with a walk and two runs were scored. Ben Freeman went two for four with a run batted in and a stolen base. Zeke Roosevelt went one for four with a home run.
