St. Philip stayed unbeaten in South Gibson Babe Ruth League play last week, sweeping St. Wendel in a Tuesday, June 30, doubleheader before beating Parts City Auto Parts of North Posey on Wednesday, July 1.
Fort Branch VFW opened the week with a 12-7 win over Reinbrecht Homes on Monday, June 29, before splitting a Tuesday, June 30, doubleheader with Parts City. St. Wendel came back Wednesday, July 1, with a 17-0 win over Reinbrecht.
Fort Branch beat Reinbrecht 12-7 Monday, June 29, at Haubstadt Park, scoring three runs in the first inning and four more in the second. Waylon Lamson finished with two hits and three RBIs, while Axle Stewart, Kaigan Nossett and Keagan Martin each had two hits.
Fort Branch drew 10 walks and stole 10 bases, according to its scoring, and played without an error.
Reinbrecht still had traffic all night, finishing with nine hits and eight walks. Abel Miller went 4-for-4 with two RBIs, while Lucas Sexton and Tucker Helfirch each had multiple hits.
St. Philip took the first game of its Tuesday, June 30, doubleheader at St. Wendel 9-3 behind Noah Carl, who worked all five innings. Carl allowed six hits and three runs, two earned, while striking out nine without issuing a walk.
St. Philip scored three runs in the first inning, added one in the third and broke the game open with five in the fourth. Jameson Joffray went 2-for-2 with four RBIs, while Eli Scheu went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Carter Salee scored twice, drove in one run, walked twice and stole two bases.
St. Wendel had six hits in the loss. Holden York went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Cruz McGrew and Nathan Seagert each had a hit, and Barrett Gibbs scored twice.
St. Philip completed the sweep with a 5-4 win in the nightcap.
Joffray drove in the first two St. Philip runs with a first-inning single and a third-inning double. St. Wendel tied the game 2-2 in the third, but St. Philip went back in front with three runs in the fifth. Carl, Elijah Moore and Joel Williams each drove in a run during the fifth.
Scheu earned the win, allowing one hit and two runs, one earned, over 3 1/3 innings. He struck out nine and walked four. Salee threw one scoreless inning in relief, allowing one hit with one strikeout and one walk.
Joffray went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Brayden Bassemier also had two hits for St. Philip, while Riley Elfrich walked three times.
York, McGrew and Jonah Bender had St. Wendel’s hits. Easton Reising, McGrew and Bender
drove in runs.
Fort Branch and Parts City split their Tuesday, June 30, doubleheader at Fort Branch JEW Field.
Fort Branch took the opener 7-2 after scoring five runs in the first inning. Stewart singled in one run, Ryker Georges doubled in two and Samuel Hoover doubled in two more. Nossett added an RBI groundout in the second, and Bo Weber drove in a run in the third.
Martin earned the win for Fort Branch, allowing two runs over 3 2/3 innings with five strikeouts and two walks. Georges and Hoover each drove in two runs. Fort Branch stole 10 bases and did not commit an error.
Parts City finished with nine hits. Caden Wright went 3-for-3, while Brantley Wilkey drove in two runs.
Parts City answered in the nightcap with a 3-1 win behind Wright, who threw all five innings. Wright allowed one unearned run on two hits, struck out five and walked two.
Parts City scored twice in the second inning on a Kyle Hatch single and a Paisley Fisher groundout. Drake Detty, Hatch and Fisher each drove in a run. Parts City also turned a double play and stole six bases.
Fort Branch had two hits, one each from Stewart and Hoover.
St. Philip beat Parts City 9-3 Wednesday, July 1, behind a seven-run third inning.
St. Philip scored once in the first and once in the second before the third inning decided it. Salee drew a bases-loaded walk, Scheu was hit by a pitch to bring in a run and Joffray singled in two. St. Philip also scored on an error and a steal of home during the inning.
Salee earned the win, allowing three hits and one run, none earned, over four innings. He struck out eight and walked one. Bassemier threw the final inning.
Scheu went 1-for-2 with two RBIs, while Joffray also drove in two runs. Riley Elfrich, Scheu, Joffray and Wesley Elfrich had St. Philip’s hits.
Parts City scored once in the fourth and twice in the fifth. Wilkey drove in two runs, while Wright, Hunter McManus, Detty and Will Jenkins each had a hit.
St. Wendel ended the week with its biggest offensive game, beating Reinbrecht 17-0 Wednesday, July 1, at Haubstadt Park.
Noah Kirlin threw a five-inning shutout for St. Wendel, allowing three hits with nine strikeouts and no walks.
St. Wendel scored five runs in the first inning, two in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth and five in the fifth. York went 4-for-4 with four runs and two RBIs. McGrew went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, while Kirlin had three hits and two RBIs. Seagert added two hits, three RBIs and two runs, and Gibbs had two hits, two runs and an RBI.
Reinbrecht’s hits came from Miller, Carson Brock and Dezmond Taylor.
