Six Vikings, six Wildcats advance to wrestling regional

The postseason is here for high school wrestlers across the state of Indiana. Last Saturday morning, the Mount Vernon and North Posey wrestling teams battled at the Evansville Central sectional. Nine schools participated at this venue with the top four wrestlers in each weight class advancing to this Saturday’s regional contest at Castle High School.
Evansville Mater Dei won the overall team score with 329.5 points. Mater Dei had all fourteen wrestlers in each weight class advance to the regionals. Evansville Reitz placed second with 161 points. Gibson Southern finished third with 138.5 points.
Mount Vernon came in fourth place with 128.5 points, while Vincennes Lincoln placed fifth as a team with 128 points. North Posey in sixth place with 115 points, Princeton in seventh place with 107.5 points, Evansville Central in eighth place with 83.5 points, and Evansville North in ninth place with 40.5 points.
Mount Vernon had six wrestlers qualifying for regionals as did North Posey with six wrestlers advancing to the next round. The qualifying wrestlers for the Wildcats were Maddex Salee (132), Logan Mitchell (150), Braxton Whitfield (165), Ira Muller (175), Eastin Hall (190), and Bryce Bourne (285). For North Posey, the regional qualifiers were Parker Wehmer (126), Aslan Templeton (138), Adam Gray (144), Samual Mort (150), Cody Fitts (165), and Tyson Barrow (175).

Only one wrestler from the two schools won their weight class and that was junior Tyson Barrow from North Posey winning the 175-pound weight class. This is the second straight year that Barrow has won the 175-pound weight class at sectional.
Placing second in their weight class were Parker Wehmer of North Posey in the 126-pound weight class, Cody Fitts of North Posey in the 165-pound weight class, Logan Mitchell of Mount Vernon in the 150-pound weight class, Eastin Hall of Mount Vernon in the 190-pound weight class, and Bryce Bourne of Mount Vernon in the 285-pound weight class.
Finishing third and qualifying for the regionals were Maddex Salee of Mount Vernon in the 132-pound weight class, Aslan Templeton of North Posey in the 138-pound weight class, Adam Gray of North Posey in the 144-pound weight class, Braxton Whitfield of Mount Vernon in the 165-pound weight class, and Ira Muller of Mount Vernon in the 175-pound weight class. Samual Mort of North Posey also qualified for regionals, placing fourth in the 150-pound weight class.
Placing in the top six of their weight class but did not qualify for regional round from Mount Vernon were Kaleb Schuler, Monroe Harris, and Trevan Bell. North Posey had Caden Wright placing fifth in the 190-pound weight class.
