Routine maintenance needed, no warranties

Through the experiences of my life, I have learned that when things begin to age, you begin to have trouble with them.

In the car business, there’s a warranty for the new cars and even a remaining warranty at times for the slightly used vehicles.

Over the past couple of years, I have learned first-hand that our bodies come with no warranties, implied or otherwise. When you have trouble, you get to the appropriate specialized shop to get them repaired. Sometimes the jobs are small and other times they are large but seems like a lot of it comes down to the routine maintenance you have had done down through the years. Like vehicles, our bodies have routine items that need maintenance but even with the best maintenance, our “check engine” light can come on at any time and inhibit our ability to use our bodies the way we are accustomed to.

In the past year, seems like every time I have turned around, my “check engine” light has come on. The first and biggest project was the first one to come along. Problems with infection in my urology area was the first to call me out. I will say that Evansville doctors have left little for me to have confidence in them through that ordeal. But that’s another story.

As soon as I had half recovered from the surgeries to repair those items, it was time for yet another surgery, this time to repairs two or three hernias in my mid-section. I’m happy to report that surgery and healing, while uncomfortable, has come along fine.

This week, the guy who has always boasted 20/20 vision all his life, realized that when a portion of the vision in your left eye is solid black, there might be a problem.

An early morning appointment this week (thanks to Dr. Gordon Green and my niece Sydney, his assistant), resulted in an emergency surgery within a couple hours of my visit to help make sure I retain my vision.

But as I worked through things, I have realized that maybe if I get these seemingly minor things repaired and stabilized, perhaps I will get a lot more miles out of the original parts.

Hang in there with me. Another small surgery in the middle of the others has left me sitting at four surgeries in about nine months. I wouldn’t recommend it for someone seeking a good time but I will recommend them for people who want to continue an active lifestyle.

Somebody said it was simple but you and I know it’s possible. Do the maintenance and keep the oil changed. We will have a lot to do!
