Nine NPHS BPA members qualify for state competition

By Lois Mittino Gray

Nine members of the North Posey High School Business Professionals of America Club are excitedly planning to attend the BPA National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tenn., on May 6 through 10. They qualified to get those days off school by placing high enough in their respective categories at the BPA State Leadership Conference on March 8 through 10 in Indianapolis. “There was lots of competition, but we all placed well enough to get us to Nashville,” Audrey Fisher explained to members of the North Posey School Board at their April 13 regular meeting.

Of the 26 club members attending, one third of them qualified for Nationals by placing in the top three and earned the right to move on in their categories. Senior student Audrey Fisher was named the “North Posey Chapter All-Star” after placing first in Legal Office Procedures and earning second place on the Presentation Team. Katelyn Seibert teamed up with Audrey and earned 2nd Place with their Presentation Team. She also placed second in the Banking and Finance category.

Five students qualified as members of the crackerjack Parliamentary Procedure Team that scored a second-place win. Members are Aiden MacMunn, Jewel Greathouse, Paxtyn Gibbs, Kaden Conyers and Cristian Galindo. They told Board members they really have a challenge ahead of them at National. “We will have to do a live meeting and work with three main motions and many individual tasks,” Aiden MacMunn said. Michaela Walden won a third place qualification in Advanced Interview Skills. Maelee Yount earned a fifth place in Business Law and Ethics and Paxtyn Gibbs also won a fifth place in Economic Research. The Economic Research team made up of Ethan Ashby, Carter Schickel, Easton Robinson, and Drake Schweizer placed sixth in their category.

Kaden Conyers, Paxtyn Gibbs, Audrey Fisher, Aiden MacMunn, and Maelee Yount were present at the school board meeting to discuss their accomplishments with BPA. They all are taught by BPA Advisor and teacher Shannon Schickel. Schickel, Andrea Esche, and Kyle Yount were approved to take the qualifying BPA students to Nashville to compete at the National BPA Conference. Expenses shall be paid from a combination of ECA Funds and the participants.

Other “Good News” discussed at the Board meeting included the North Posey Performing Arts completing a successful production of Guys and Dolls, showcasing the talent and dedication of students and staff and North Elementary and South Terrace Schools being honored on April 8, 2026, at the 2026 Literacy Achievement Celebration in Indianapolis.
