Leon Ellis Jones, 88, of Evansville, Ind., passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Linda E. White Hospice House.
Leon was born in Round Hill, Ky., on September 3, 1937, to the late Bryan Jones and Lourenie (Lamar) Hughes. He retired from Welborn Heating and Air as an HVAC Tech. For many years, Leon repaired and sold lawn mowers from his home and was affectionately known as the “Lawn Mower Man.” Leon loved people and was gifted with the ability to talk to anyone. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, boating, fishing and traveling. He met the love of his life, Rosetta, when they were both attending Smith Grade School in New Harmony and have been married for 68 wonderful years. Above all, Leon will be remembered for the love he had for his family. He will be deeply missed.
Leon is survived by his wife, Rosetta (Mercer) Jones; daughter, Rosalie Miller (Alan); son, Jeff Jones (Shannon); grandchildren, April Miller (Dexter Roberts), Heather Parkinson (Robby), Kevin Jones, Courtney Harveston (Chad) and Sean Miller (Lasha); sister, Edith Elliott; by 15 great-granchildren and many other extended family members.
Leon was preceded in death by his son, Ellis Jones; by his parents; sister, Frankie Oliver; brothers, Olan Jones and Hiram Jones; and by his brother-in-law, Charles Elliott.
A celebration of Leon’s life was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 27, 2026 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Avenue, Evansville, IN 47711 with The Rev. Dallas Robinson and The Rev. Dennis Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
Friends may visit from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home on Monday.
