Lady Vikings defeat Vincennes Lincoln

The 2026 softball season started last Friday afternoon for the North Posey Lady Vikings. In their first contest, they played the Vincennes Lincoln Lady Alices in a home matchup. North Posey lost two key players (Alyssa Heath and Morgan LaVanchy) from last season but returned a lot of experience to make a possible deep run this year.

On this cold and windy day at North Posey High School. Both schools started off slowly producing runs on the scoreboard. North Posey got things going in the bottom of the fourth inning when Paige Vaughn was walked. Then, Mylee Allen smacked a double to center field scoring Vaughn to give North Posey a 1-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, North Posey scored four more runs to extend their lead out to 5-0. It started with an Avery Sanders single. A few batters later, Lily Hester doubled to left field scoring Sanders.

Taryn Wilson singles on a bunt allowing Hester to score another Vikings run. Paige Vaughn stepped to the plate and hit a triple scoring, Wilson. Madison Versteeg hit a single to left field scoring Vaughn to help North Posey then lead 5-0.

Vincennes Lincoln scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning on a two-run homer by Olivia Lange to left field that also scored Emma Cunningham. Alli Esche threw 6.2 innings for the Lady Vikings. Esche was awarded the winning pitcher allowing six hits, no runs, no walks with four strikeouts on 67 pitches thrown. Fifty-six of Esche’s pitches went on strikes.

For the game, North Posey had ten hits in this contest. Lily Hester went two for four hitting with a double, one RBI and a score. Mylee Allen went two for three at the plate with a double and drove in a run. Avery Sanders went two for three and scored one run.

Paige Vaughn hit a triple, drove in a run, scored two runs, walked and stole a base. Taryn Wilson went one for three hitting with a run batted in and a score. Madison Versteeg had one hit and one run batted in. Alyssa Sanders had one hit in the game.

North Posey starts off the season undefeated with a 1-0 record. Vincennes Lincoln began their year off with a 0-1 record. Next up for North Posey is a game this Monday at home against Evansville Harrison starting at 5:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, March 31, the Lady Vikings will travel across the Ohio River to play against a very good Henderson County team with the first pitch at 5:30 p.m. Then North Posey will close out the week at home on Friday, April 3, against Evansville Reitz starting at 5 p.m.
