American Legion Auxiliary to meet

American Legion Post 5 Auxiliary in Mt. Vernon will meet on Wednesday, May 27, at 6:00 PM at the Legion at 203 Walnut Street.


K of C sponsored Bingo to be held May 30

The Knights of Columbus of St. Philip and Corpus are sponsoring a Bingo on May 30, 2026 at the St. Philip Gymnasium. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the bingo begins at 6 p.m. The cost is $25 for a packet of 20 games and includes a packet of four special games. Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers, Hot Dogs, Nachos and Cheese, Popcorn and drinks will be available.


PC Historical Society to meet

The next meeting of the Posey County Historical Society will be held in the Ohio Room at the Alexandrian Public Library in Mount Vernon, Ind., on Saturday, May 30 at 10 a.m. Following a brief business meeting there will be presentation by Posey County Historian Stanley Campbell on services and artifacts to be found at the Posey County Historical Society Museum. The public is encouraged to attend.


Community Clean Up

Marshall Disposal Community Clean Up Day will be held on May 30, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their headquarters 5222 Highway 66.


NH Tri Kappa sets Bingo fundraiser

The active Tri Kappa Beta chapter of New Harmony would like to announce their fundraiser event Tri Kappa Bingo on May 31, 1-3 p.m. Come early because seating goes fast and the kitchen will be open to the public. There will be several baskets to raffle and a half pot.


Promoting a Drug-Free Community in Posey County, Inc., to meet

The Promoting a Drug-Free Community in Posey County, Inc., Local Coordinating Council is a group who meets on the first Monday of each month at 12 at noon. The next LCC meeting is at noon on June 1, 2026. The meeting location is at Family Matters located at Hedges School (Eighth Street entrance, Door 5).

Dates are subject to change due to holidays, etc. If school is closed, there will be no meeting.

Donner Family Reunion set for June 6

It’s a Family Affair for family and friends on Saturday, June 6, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Robinson Township Conservation Club, 1015 N. Stierley Road in Wadesville.


Kids Fishing Day

The Mount Vernon Conservation Club will sponsor a Kids Fishing Day on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at the club grounds at 700 Springfield Road, Mount Vernon, Ind. The event is open to the public for children 0-16 years of age. Registration begins at 8 with fishing from 9-11. A meal and prizes will follow the event.


DNR Free Fishing Dates

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds Hoosiers that multiple Free Fishing Day opportunities remain. The dates are June 6–7 and Sept. 26.

On these days, Indiana residents may fish public waters without a fishing license or trout/salmon stamp.

While fishing license requirements are waived for residents during these designated days, all other state fishing regulations remain in effect, including bag limits, size restrictions, and seasonal rules.

Those who enjoy Free Fishing Days can extend their opportunities to participate by purchasing a 2026 annual fishing license, valid through March 31, 2027, at GoOutdoorsIN.com.


St. Philips Conservation Club Kids Fishing Derby

St. Philips Conservation Club will be sponsoring their third Kids Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at the club grounds at 3220 Conservation Drive. For Google access use the Middle Mount Vernon Road route, the Creamery road access is private and not an access road.

The event is open to the public and the age for the event is children 0-16 years of age.

Registration begins at 8 a.m., on the day of the event. Bring your own tackle, bait will be provided by the Club. A brief safety meeting will be held at 9 a.m., and fishing begins soon after and concludes at 11 a.m. A meal for kids and adults that attend with them will follow fishing activities.

Prizes will be awarded and every child will come away from the event with new gear to continue their outdoor adventure with fishing.


Lego Robotics Summer Camp set

South Terrace Robotics Club will host a Summer Camp June 15-19, and June 22 - 26. Contact Pam Wilson or David Wilson at South Terrace for more information.


Purdue Extension Mastering Home Food Preservation

Join Purdue Extension on June 23-26, 2026 for four days of intensive food preservation education.

The Mastering Home Food Preservation workshop: covers food safety, boiling water bath and pressure canning, pickling/fermentation, freezing, dehydrating, freeze drying, and jams/jellies. It includes a lecture and discussion on each topic followed by hands-on practice of proper food preservation techniques. It is appropriate for anyone interested in learning the science of safe food preservation including beginners and seasoned preservers alike.
