PUBLIC NOTICE
Posey County Emergency Management Agency, 305 Mill Street, Mt. Vernon, IN, Posey County, in conjunction with Indiana Department of Homeland Security, has applied for Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for Emergency Back Up Power for Communications Infrastructure. The objective of HMA programs is to fund mitigation measures that reduce the risk of loss of life and property from future hazard events or disasters. The purpose of the Emergency Back Up Power for Communications Infrastructure project is to acquire and install emergency backup generators at 5 of the 10 sites currently containing public safety communications equipment, that do not currently have a source of emergency back up power. The goal is to ensure continuity of operations at all 10 communications sites before, during and after an event of any magnitude. The primary objective is to enhance the resilience and reliability of our local communications infrastructure that supports emergency response, communications and recovery efforts.
Under the National Environmental Policy Act, EO 11988 and EO 11990, public notice is required of any federal actions that may affect floodplains or wetlands. Under the National Historic Preservation Act, public notice is also required for some projects which have the potential to affect historic properties. All necessary permits and approvals will be obtained prior to construction and completion of the project.
Public participation is encouraged. Those interested are invited to comment within 30 days by e-mail to fema-r5-environmental@fema.dhs.gov or by mail to:
